We wanted some relaxed TexMex, and decided to try the restaurant area at El Rio Grande. At 8pm the placed was packed and the noise at the tables was deafening, so we moved to the bar which was quiet and peaceful--go figure. Mike was our friendly bartender. My mind was set on chicken in mole sauce. The sauce was nicely piquant, the chicken was delicious, and served with beans and rice. Next time I may ask for a salad to try to stay on my flex diet. The staff were all pleasant and accommodating, and next time i will have some fresh fish which I understand comes into the restaurant on Weds.

We were a group of 8 and had no problems making last minute reservations. We crossed from the Texan side to the Mexican side through the kitchen and were warmly greeted by all the kitchen staff as we walked through.
The kitchen ws spotless.
We tried several different authentic dishes all fresh and very tasty.
We had a picky 3 year old with us and the happily obliged him with a made to order quesadilla that was not on the menu.
If you go, you must order the guacamole that they make at your table right at the start so that you can enjoy them with your nachos.

The first time we ate at Rio Grande was in August. We had a quesedilla and margaritas. Both were amazing. Yes, a quesedilla can be amazing! There are some great margarita flavors and we have now tried over half of them. We haven't had a bad one yet. Note: they are quite strong and it hits you fast. Go slow on drinking them or they will have to peel you off the floor! We also tried the black bean soup this time and it was excellent. We are planning on trying a full meal next time we are in the neighborhood. At least give this place a try for margaritas. You won't be disappointed!

It's been 25 years since we lived in Murray Hill and were thrilled to see El Rio Grande still there and still prospering. Amazing Margaritas, terrific guacamole, and great entrees. Highly recommend the stuffed jalapenos.

This occupies a small block. we turned up with kids on the side more like a bar and tables were available on the other side of the venue (or perhaps thats where they put people with kids). The smiley lady seating people started to describe access to the other side, but then offered to walk us through the kitchen. Must be very confident of the staff and cleanliness in there to do that. Cool experience to see all the Mexican food being prepared, and yes clean kitchen with equally friendly staff who didn't mind being invaded by four Brits on a Friday evening.

The great service continued with swiftness, smiles and friendliness. Tortilla chips came with the drinks and I enjoyed a great strawberry margarita, my other half a Mexican beer on tap. We all shared nachos for starters ( although extra chips were brought so maybe not required). Kids had four cheese quesadillas, I had veg enchilada, husband had crab and shrimp enchilada. All agreed were really, really tasty.

Towards the end of the meal on clearing the table one of the staff accidentally knocked my sons drink over. He was so apologetic and worked quickly to help mop up. We didn't ask for any more juice (especially as there was hardly any left in the glass) but it was soon replaced with a full glass.

Overall fantastic food and drink and great service. Only drawback maybe a little cramped on the side of the restaurant where we sat.
