The Cooking Tutor and her party were looking for a quick bite to eat close to the MMA(metropolitan museum of art). They found the Island, looked briefly at the menu, grabbed an outdoor table and looked forward to a good meal before going to the Met for the evening. We waited for nearly 40 minutes for a simple meal for 4: one salad, a hamburger, and two omlettes. After asking the server where our meal was after 30 minutes, she was condescending in her reply and was not eager to please our party. The meal finally came, although the salad was good, the omlettes were mediocre and the burger was burned and had the consistency of canned dog food (really). The burger was sent back and nothing was requested in its place after having waited so long. It was removed from the bill and no apologies were made. THE BILL STILL CAME TO $85 with tip. We ended up having only an hour at the museum before closing. Lesson to be learned : look around the restaurant on a summer evening - are there alot of happy people eating appetizing food? If not, walk away quickly - there's another restaurant half a block away in NYC.
