Description: Le Colonial is a truly delightful culinary experience. Like stepping into French Colonial Southeast Asia, this two-story restaurant, designed by Greg Jordan, consists of a main dining room with louvered wall panels, colorful tile floors, and vintage photos of Vietnam. Upstairs is an elegant, but lively, lounge serving a full dinner or just appetizers and cocktails. The lounge serves as an ideal setting for private parties and business dinners. Le Colonial serves an authentic Vietnamese menu with an emphasis on fresh seafood, meats, and vegetables.

“Outstanding and well prepared french/Vietnamese fusion.”

Three for lunch during 2014 Restaurant Week for prix fixe $25. a Bargain. Shrimp dish extralordinary.

Appetizer of five spice duck rolls good but looked dry to me. Those who had it said they were good. I had Dau Chien. Charred long beans, spicy pork “ragu”, crispy shallots. Excellent flavor but too much salt and the salt taste accumulated over time. Very large portion.

For the main course I had Tom Galanga Wok fried prawns, scallions, galanga sauce. Extraorindary flavor.... hint of ginger. Exellent portion. Two others had Bo Lui,
Grilled beef brochettes, rice vermicelli salad, spiced nuoc cham sauce. Excellent and well prepared.

Dessert was tapioca pudding with banana and coconut. A little soupy for our taste. One had chocolate ice cream. Nothing could go wrong with that.

We hadn't been here for years and will be back soon.

Very quiet because of sound treatment and distance between tables. Monday lunch. Not too crowded at first but filled up fairly quickly.

Recommend.

“Great!”

Interesting restaurant. The food and service were both great. I love Vietnamese food, but I'm used to eating at dives. The idea of a fancy Vietnamese place sounded worth a try. We were not disappointed. Highly recommend.

“Simply brilliant, again.”

I have lost count on how often I have been to Le Colonial, but whenever I am in New York, Chicago, or San Francisco I go. Whether for business or a romantic dinner it is a perfect fit. I would much rather take clients there than to a steakhouse. The food is always flavorful and cooked to perfection, whether beef, fish, pork, or fowl. This time I had the Pork belly for appetizer and Pork shoulder for main course, which was well matched with a Heron Pinot Noir. For the adventurous, the whole roasted snapper is moist and very flavorful, they will offer to de-bone it for you. You should make a reservation well in advance of your visit, but they will gladly accept walk-ins.

“Do not order the crispy fried fish w/o verifying price”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

Ate lunch at la colonial this week in NYC becuz AAA recommended it. Ordered whole fried red snapper as they suggested but was surprised to see a rather scrawny fish on a big plate with nothing else served for lunch. Price tag, $49!!!!! I am sure fish should not be this expensive...it was tasty but I was still hungry afterwards. Skip this restaurant if you are hungry.
There are much better lunch pix in the city.
