When I first started to work in New York, I always wanted someplace special, where I felt comfortable, to go on a special date. It was a long time ago, a time of dreams and expectations, deserved or otherwise. A time when a $19,000 salary in NYC was enough to afford at least one big night out a month and there was no place better to be made to feel special. 21 is still capable of imparting that feeling. In fact, it is the best thing it has going.
As for ambience, it was and is a place for corporate titans to go and be reminded of their status by the many corporate products hanging from the ceiling. As for food, it is consistently good and served by a very professional staff. My favorite winter dish is the cream chicken. What, you say, cream chicken? Yes, so rich and delicious everyone will be asking for a bite. In the warmer months, chose the fish. Always good.
