Whenever we are in NYC, I go out of my way to stop at the Chelsea location to indulge in donuts. The unique and gourmet flavors set this donut establishment apart from the rest.

You can choose from yeast donuts, cake donuts, and "doughseed". I don't always like cake donuts b/c they can be dry, but the cake donuts here are moist and AMAZING. Doughseed variety is just a small round yeast donut filled with interesting flavors (like rose). The yeast donuts are square shaped, and often are not filled but rather, glazed with great flavors like valrhona chocolate or passion fruit. I find that when the yeast donuts are glazed (and not filled inside), the glazed flavor doesn't penetrate through the donut effectively.

In summary, you won't go wrong with the carrot cake donut and the coconut cream filled yeast donuts. Once you try these two classics, you will understand what all the hype is about at the Doughnut Plant.

Tip: lines can be long on weekends, but move quickly. Tables are often filled to capacity, but turn over quickly.

The place is cute, pillows on the wall replicating donuts. The actual donuts are just so so. Definitely not worth the price. We tried six different types so it wasn't like we happened on a dud. There are much better donuts out there at a fraction of the cost. Don't be swayed by the hype and the cutesy names of the different choices.

My family tried these delicious doughnuts during our visit to NYC. We have talked about the coconut cream filled square ever since! Wished they could be ordered and mailed.

The black out is yum and the valrhona is big.. service is slow.. not much seating and the staffing seemed to be a little unprofessional. Besides having to wait 5 minutes with only 2 people in front I dread to think if there was a real queue?
The manager sat at a table having a meeting with someone taking up space for 4 people whilst the place was packed and customers were looking for somewhere to sit..maybe thats NYC but not a way to run a business in my book.

We were pretty excited to eat here and after waiting in maybe an 8 person line we placed our order. We got 2 of the square donuts. One was a coconut cream and the other was glazed with jelly. We really wanted to sit after we got our donuts, but there was limited seating so we waited. We got cut for seats once and learned to be more aggressive. So as one family started to get up, we hovered and hovered hard. But it scored us a nice seat where we enjoyed the great donuts. We would most certainly go back. The decor in the place was pretty cool and unique. Lots of Circular art in the seating and the floors. This went well with the nice modern electronic menu boards.
