I had the Kobe beef burger it was huge! 20 oz! Very well cooked and very tasty. Got the quality service you expect from a high end restaurant. Overall good experience.

“Steak Will Never Be the Same”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

We were walking around the Chelsea area looking for a place to eat, and one of the guys that was with us remembered having heard of this place before so we decided to check it out.

This place is anything but cheap (steaks for $40-125, sides extra), but the food was absolutely amazing. I had a sirloin, and my wife decided to splurge and get the most expensive piece of meat on the menu: the Kobe steak. It was by far the most amazing piece of meat that I've ever tasted.

So yes, the place is expensive but so incredibly good.

“A Good Honest Steakhouse”
Reviewed August 12, 2012

Old Homestead is a good steakhouse with great service. My wife and I had each had a beautiful 22oz ribeye steak that wasn't the best we've ever had, but it was delicious and cooked to perfection. My older son wasn't happy with his sirloin steak, however. He said it wasn't that juicy, even though he ordered it medium rare. In fact, we ate lunch at a place called Tri-tip Grill in Grand Central Station, and he said that $15 steak there was better than his $45 steak at Old Homestead. Yikes! My younger son said his $50 filet mignon on the bone was okay. Not the kind of responses you're hoping for when spending $250 for dinner.

On a happier note, the caesar salad appetizer was a hit, as was the tomato soup, which was outstanding and tasted more like a bisque. Service was outstanding with our needs being met quickly and efficiently. The restaurant sits on 9th Ave. and 15th St., so it's not the best location, but if you combine it with the High Line Park, which is right nearby, you can make a night of it.

Would I go back to Old Homestead? No. Are there better steakhouses? Yes. It's a good steakhouse. But at $50-$75 per person, good just isn't good enough.

“Great food but atmosphere leaves something to be desired”
Reviewed July 15, 2012 via mobile

The steaks were great and the sides were amazing. The truffle mac and cheese was superb. The Kobe burger was every bit as delicious as it was huge (20oz.). All over it was great, but since the renovation the atmosphere isn't anything special.
