“Great Appetizer, Main Entree Hit or Miss”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2011

The appetizer, a steamed juicy pork dish, was hands down the best chinese food I've ever had in my life. After that, the main dishes were hit or miss, I liked mine (General Tsao's) but my boyfriend didn't so much care for his (House Spicy Sauteed Beef). I tried his and have to agree, I couldn't have eaten a whole plate of that particular dish. The service is okay, but there was a significant language barrier in place when we visited. But we would visit again just to get that juicy pork steamed dumpling thing--and a lot of it!

“run away, yeah”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2009

the worst experience in almost 2 decades of eating in chinatown restaurants.
on sunday, two of us decided to give this place a try. our favorite place was full and it was getting late. seen good reviews we thought we had nothing to loose - big mistake.
we were told to sit at a tiny table right by a very busy food station, even though there were a few empty tables around. we asked if we could sit at one of the tables against the wall. the table was larger, yet had only 2 place settings.
at first they refused and told us this was a table for 4. then, as if they were doing us an enormous favor, they waved 'ok'. as we sat down a waiter ran towards the table and literally threw a menu at the table barely missing us.
needless to say, we decided not to take any chances that he will throw the food at us next . he might not miss again. so we did not stick around to taste the food.
on our way out we told the manager why we were leaving. his reaction? - "oh, yeah"
now you know what's in a name.
with so many restaurants on both sides of the street, one can easily find great food and good service ... sadly, not at shanghai deluxe.

“Excellent fried shrimp”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2008

My husband and I just got back from another eating weekend in NYC (we go several times a year) and this time tried the New Yeah Shanghai as a change from our usual Nice (New) Green Bo. We had the soupy dumplings with pork and crab meat and the friend salt and pepper shrimp. Both were very good, although the dumplings were not up to Nice Green Bo standard. We did enjoy the shrimp quite a bit and found some other items on the menu that we really wanted to try (not to mention all the tasty items we saw other diners eating) so the New Yeah Shanghai is definitely going on the list for next time as well. Atmosphere is quiet and a little more inviting than the usual hectic Chinatown establishment.

good food, excellent sui-lung-bao, good service, the Shanghai foods you order here maybe a little different and not always what you expect because certain dishes will use different types of ingredients under the same casual dishes which may or may not always be good if you're a person of expectations, lovely decor, the only thing you should careful about his eating their siu-lung-bao because the wrapping is tougher and when you pop it in your mouth it tends to gush out and that might burn your mouth or have juices flying out without a napkin
