He ought to get a Nobel, or something. We've never been disappointed at one of his spots (haven't been to all of them).
Wonderful, helpful server, delicious from start to finish.

Always great food but the best thing is they treat everyone with courtesy-not like uptown. Terrific location- be sure to go to Union Square Christmas market-wonderful produce and interesting gifts.

We had lunch here on a holiday weekend. We only booked in the morning but got a table which was lucky as the restaurant was pretty crowded. The service was low key but impeccable. The waiter was knowledgeable and unfussily helpful. A dish was amended to allow for my not eating meat ( this turns out to be quite a problem in NYC with many restaurants unwilling/unable to make changes to their menu.)This always suggests that food is freshly prepared and that was definitely the case here. Salads were full of taste and with an excellent dressing - so often a nasty surprise in the States. My husband never finishes a pasta dish, but he did here. The wines, chosen in collaboration with the waiter , were excellent. For the first time in five days of eating in more expensive places, we got a quality white. The setting is unprepossessing, with rather low ceilings and indifferent decoration. Food is obviously the focal point of this absolute treasure.

From the moment we walked through the front door, hospitality plus was experienced.
Mama was our server and she embraced us with a level of service that surpassed our expectations! I've read Danny Meyer's "setting the table", so I had expectations and a level of anticipated relaxation prior to arriving.
We ordered a bottle of Truchard Vineyard's Pinot Noir to accompany our meal... Perfect.
As we paid for our meal, all I could think was, I just want to Hug Mama.
Thank you for such a memorable experience!
I work at Round Pond Estate in the Napa Valley, too experience this level of experience in New York with it's hurried life style made me feel as if it was "Home away from Home".

whether in the village or wandering around union square, the cafe continues to be one of the best places to lunch, brunch or enjoy a drink and bar food. i havent been to dinner there, but the brunch was exceptional and the service outstanding. was a thoroughly pleasant experience, and reasonably priced. you wont go wrong here.
