This long standing Village restaurant started in the earlyto mid 1970's, it was a delicious lovely place, a joy to visit.
Unfortunately it has grown into a huge money making machine, the food is still very good, but the service has suffered a lot and the place is noisy.
I still enjoy very much going, but do miss the old place with it's original owners Armand and Mario...

Pay no attatention to my recolections, do visit this lovely place, it is fun, specially on a cold winter evening.

Thank Raoul P

By far, the most romantic restaurant in NYC! Not cheap, but oh the ambiance! A must for anyone in love!

Approaching the restaurant on Barrow Street already sets the mood for this one-of-a-kind place in the big city. Once inside the feeling even gets stronger. We were delightfully surprised that there were three large scallops in the appetizer, and the short ribs entre was equally delicious. The server kept refilling our water, but wine was only poured once--otherwise we were on our own! This was a 39th anniversary dinner and it hit the spot.

We came for lunch with friends on a sunday and were seated upstairs. The heat and odors rise to the ceiling making that area uncomfortably warm and we left smelling like fries. You're better off downstairs with more room between the tables and nicer ambience. Although the brown carpetting can use an upgrade.
As appetizer we ordered a 'beets and citrus' salad, which after searching below the spinach contained two part beet and one tangerine slice.
as main we had the steak friet which was well cooked but a very small portion and lobster roll, which was well done and generous.
overall, mixed feelings over the food, it was not bad but we did not leave feeling we want to go back either.

This restaurant is a bit unassuming from the outside, but once inside it pure class. From the food to the service, decor, and ambiance, everything exceeded our expectations. The perfect spot for a romantic evening: candlelit dinner, attentive waitstaff, and the food was oh so heavenly!

We started with oysters on the half shell (my first time, so I have no point of reference to compare), then scallops for the appetizers. (The scallops were divine...we ordered a second round.). The main course was lobster, prepared three ways...each preparation was better than the last! The portions looked small, but we were filled. Dessert was a tasting trio of I don't-know-what, but it was just the right amount of sweet...the perfect ending to a perfect meal. The wine was good, too (we had Riesling and cabernet).

I have to add more about the service. We arrived early, thinking they would just seat us at the bar, but they gave us a table right away. Also, we ended up staying much longer than anticipated, just talking in the candlelight. No one rushed us out.

This was a first date, fellas, and this gentleman delivered a very classy, romantic evening. (Make sure you show up with the roses for the finishing touch!)
