“Save room for the cheese cart!”
Reviewed December 8, 2013 via mobile

Great experience at Daniel. The food and service is well worth the price it commands, and although getting a reservation was tricky I'm glad we made it happen. The only disappointment was the so called sommelier. We didn't recognize many of the French wine selections and asked for help selecting a bottle. She basically just asked what we usually drink then pointed us back to the California wines. I expect more when spending $100 on a bottle. The food more than made up for it, and we got some great cocktails from the bar. Our favorite was the beef 2 ways. Also keep in mind the cheese cart is waiting on the sideline, a treasure and an experience in itself. For a slight up charge I was able to make 4 selections from the cheese cart in place of dessert. Much appreciated!!

“amazing food, strange waiter”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

+ Let us sum it up in a few words: the food is amazing, the atmosphere very nice maybe a little hectic, over all service is good.

- The thing that would keep us from going there again on our next trip to NY is the waiter, who after ordering the bill and trying to pay told us that the tip we were about to make (round 11% of a 370$ bill) was not adequate, since in the States you should usually give 15- 20%. This we found quite barefaced and and quite improper for restaurant staff.

“Met our high expectations”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

The food was outstanding and the service was equally good. Both the smoked salmon and scallops starters were perfectly prepared and we would gladly order them again. We both had fish for our main courses and both fish dishes were well prepared and accompanied by sauces that were delicious but certainly not overwhelming. Dessert was over the top. Between the desserts we ordered and the special extras they brought us, we were in heaven. The staff was very friendly and helpful, but at no point were they intrusive. They answered all of our questions about the food and were more than happy to do so. We would definitely love to eat there again!

“Meal of a lifetime”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

Myself and my wife traveled from Scotland to New York to get married in Central Park on 12 December 2012 and booked a table at Daniel's in the evening to celebrate with our family.

There were 8 of us in our group and whilst we were eating relatively early (6.30pm) there was no pressure on us at any point to vacate our table as I have found to happen at many restaurants.

Given the size of our group we had to pre-select a reduced menu (not the actual choices) and opted for a four course menu with four choices per course and these were printed on our own menus with our personal information on, a lovely touch given it was a very special day.

We were given a table in the corner of the main dining area which was excellent as we really felt as though we were part of the restaurant and an excellent festive atmosphere. Other restaurants we had considered had only offered us a private room which isn't what we wanted.

The food was quite simple exquisite. Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed the meal with nothing but praise for both chefs and waiting staff.

At the end of the meal we were presented with a signed copy of our menu from Daniel himself. A lovely touch and it's now framed on our wall.

“Welcoming, Unpretentious, Delicious!”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

We wandered in to Daniel (having never heard of it) while strolling after a 20 hour flight, no reservation, not quite dressed right. No problem! The staff found us a table in the lounge area and proceeded to treat us with courtesy, warmth, and one of the best meals of our lives. I can not recommend this restaurant enough.
We had the 3-course prix fixe, starting with scallops, then venison and the signature fish dish. The staff treated us to several little amuse-bouche delights before the appetizers arrived. The wine steward attentively helped my husband select the perfect wine for our meal. Dessert - where to start. We ordered one each, but the staff apparently wanted us to feel special, so they brought out a little tray with bites of six other types just so we could try them all!
All of the food was delicious, the service superb, and most of all we felt at home - a rare feat in "famous" places. Thank you, Team Daniel, for a lovely evening.
