We had a late lunch here on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The place is not so easy to find but don't give up if you don't find it at first, it is definitely worth the search.

The four of us had set sushi menus; very well prepared, good ginger, delicious fish that melts in your mouth. Thick slices of fish, not the very thin slices you sometimes get.

The service was good but nothing special. We sat in the back which I would prefer over the entrance area (the back is cosier). The bottle of white (Viognier) we had was excellent. We'll certainly go back to this place.

Old standard. Decor not the draw. Quality fresh sushi and sake. Simple menu enhances the fresh food and ingredients.

After reading amazing reviews we looked it up. As other reviews says, it is hard to find. No sign, and it is downstairs. But it is in 119 Sullivan Street. A bit disappointed by the very simple interior. And here simple also means a bit cheap.

The menu is amazing. Huge selection signals quality. And it is. Pricey sushis but very very good. Also large selection of beer. But also extremely pricey. USD 17 for a small bottle seems unnecessary.

Sum? No romance. Cold. Simple. Pricey stuff...but some amazing sushis.

Blue Ribbon is small and does not take reservations, so unless you go fairly early for dinner, you might have a long wait. But once you get that table, either through early arrival or patient waiting, you will be grateful that you are there. The decor is very much that of a Buddhist refectory (eating room), with rough-hewn wood beams and such.

And the food is amazing. From great seaweed salad to all kinds of great sushi. I like to order rolls but my recollection is that we also got some hot entrees to share that were quite wonderful. Hmmm, I think it is time to come up with a reason to go back!

The place is a little difficult to find. It has no signs outside; you can identify it by a Banzai three next to the door of an old building with a narrow wooden entrance. As you get in a hostess who will take you through another door where you will find the dinning area will welcome you. She will announce your arrival in Japanese and the cooks will salute you, very cool.

The ambience is very simple. The food is very simple as well, no weird creations and deviations from the traditional Japanese sushi as you can find in many countries. Fresh products nicely handed, combined, decorated and presented to the table. The restaurant also has a nice selection of wines, Japanese beer and sake, good service. A nice experience!
