Description: The last of its kind near 42nd Street, Chez Josephine is a neighborhood gem founded in 1986 by Jean-Claude Baker as a tribute to legendary Josephine Baker. This Parisian bistro offers live piano music and a tantalizing menu in an intimate setting of red velvet walls, a cavalcade of chandeliers and a blue-tin ceiling. Guests receive a warm welcoming and are treated as family whether coming before a show, after the show, for a leisurely dinner in-between, or a drink at the zinc bar.

“French Cabaret in NYC”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

I was trying to find a restaurant to take my wife for her birthday that was different than the usuals. I found Chez Josephine on 42nd st between 9th and 10th Aves. Opened in tribute to Josephine Baker this very cabaret style restaurant had a piano player/singer and trumpet player/both women. And the food and service was excellent to boot. We both had a fun time.

“Great atmosphere and service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

Chez Josephone is owned by the sons of Josephine Baker and it is a lark! Deep reds, mirrors, chandeliers, and Gershwin songs at the piano. The atmosphere was great, the service was absolutely perfect. Nice time to relax between courses, but never felt like it was too long. The food was very good, but also pricey. This is a place I would label as "special occassion" as opposed to daily, but I guess that depends on how richly you ordinarily eat!

“Glamourous and Great”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

Fascinating place reminiscent of the life and times of the legendary Josephine Baker. Lovely food, attentive and theatrical service, bringing the drama and the colour and glamour to diners. Jazz piano adds to the show-biz atmosphere making this a memorable venue.

“Not as good as expected”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

Excellent service, and great entertainment with a Jazz singer/pianist, but the food was average. We expected quite good food considering that this restaurant was ranked 303 out of 10,000 odd when we checked, but it was not the gourmet standard we expected. A bit try-hard.

“A drop in the ocean”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2013

We found this place by luck as our hotel was located nearby. I am glad we did. The atmosphere is very special, reminded my of old rich restaurants. The service was simply perfect! We enjoyed our meal well, and the shrimps are to die for!
