Description: The last of its kind near 42nd Street, Chez Josephine is a neighborhood gem founded in 1986 by Jean-Claude Baker as a tribute to legendary Josephine Baker. This Parisian bistro offers live piano music and a tantalizing menu in an intimate setting of red velvet walls, a cavalcade of chandeliers and a blue-tin ceiling. Guests receive a warm welcoming and are treated as family whether coming before a show, after the show, for a leisurely dinner in-between, or a drink at the zinc bar.

This restaurant seems to cater to the theatre crowd from out of town. The room is "fantastic", the service was good, but the food was ordinary.Of the four dishes ordered, only one was very good..the duck confit. But the rissoto was very ordinary and the salmon was bland for blackened.

We have been to this restaurant twice and we have absolutely loved it both times. The food and service are both fantastic! There is nice selection of food items and everything we have had so far has been delicious. Piano music is provided and the atmosphere is upbeat and lively. It is great restaurant to go to before a broadway show. It is a wonderful place to start your evening. We will definitely be going back to Chez Josephine!

I was visiting New York for the first time with friends who brought me to Chez Josephine as they were aware of my fondness for music and european travel. From the outside it was deceptively simple but once inside I was immediately transported from current day Manhattan to a 1930's trendy parisian restaurant. it's small and tightly packed with tables, but the decor is vivid and bold plus there was an amazing atmosphere of live music played by very talented artists. The food was delicious, the wine wonderful and our server was excellent as he was not only attentive but able to give detailed descriptions of the food in the menu. A real gem of a find.
