Description: Located in New York's landmark Helmsley Building, Bobby Van's Steakhouse has been serving the best porterhouse in town for the last eleven years. Upon entering, one is greeted with the sight of a credenza groaning under the weight of large bottles of wine. A bar full of regular customers is on the left and looking into the one-hundred seat dining room, one sees the thirty foot high ceiling and windows overlooking Park Avenue. To complement our Prime Aged Steaks our Sommelier has created an award winning wine list. Whether you're looking for a big Cabernet, a Pinot Noir or something in between our comprehensive list is sure to please. "

Excellent place to eat steak in midtown.
But it's a very corporate and after work type place. Lots of firms in the area take clients regularly.
Great bar area and service bar none!

Our concierge at our hotel told myself and my parents to come here. Didn't ask what prices were like, it was lovely and warm when we went in. We went on 19th January, the wine varies from $45 - $90 and the food varies from $30 - $60 and you have to buy side dishes seperately. I had a filet of sole and my parents had steak. They were lovely, but the chips were very salty. But can't help that as you are in America, they love salt ha. But I would recommend this if you wanted an expensive but nice meal. It's more for a special occasion.
There are more round New York, so I can't say this is the best as didn't try the others. The waiters were very helpful.

Overall it was a very nice meal, but very expensive.

Hope you enjoy.

We visited Bobby Vanns during December with our 2 friends. The food was excellent - especially the Porterhouse :-). The waiter was very attentive but not overally friendly. Side order portions were huge. The overall atmosphere of place was a little stuffy - full of financial types in suits. The service charge that they had added at the end of the meal was massive (30%) & being 'soft Brits' we didn't moan & paid. However we did notice that all the restaurants we visited expected a massive tip - which u don't mind paying if the service is fantastic. Would we go back ? - probably not as there are lots of other great steak houses in NY

This is a good restaurant with consistantly good food. If you can go during non-peak hours you will enjoy the atmosphere. Otherwise it get noisy and the bar is packed. Reasonably priced for a New York Steakhouse. Not likely to get a table with out reservations during typical lunch and dinner times if party is 3 or more. Might get lucky with a party of two.

This place is a vegetarian's idea of hell - huge portions of fish and meat. Very tasty, but mainly because of the sauces and dressings. My steak was good, but compared to an Argentine steakhouse I went to in London last Friday (Constancia) Bobby Van's is still lacking... However, it's a reasonably good place and it is very New York steakhouse style inside - no pretending or mistaking this for an Argentine parrilada!

I had a salad to start and that really was exceptionally good - 10/10 for the salad... In a NY steakhouse!
