We stayed at this hotel for most of the month of March, 2014. Overall the accommodations and staff were helpful and friendly. Praise for Patrick in customer services and Dianna the hostess in restaurant was extremely professional and friendly. All the staff from doormen, elevator monitors to front desk were outstanding. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. It would be nice to have a small coffee maker in room. During our stay, the Executive lunge was closed for renovations. The hotel tried to accommodate Marriott members with vouchers in restaurant. However, choices were limited at breakfast and dinner, but did not match quality of Executive lounge. One weekend , we were allowed to use vouchers for breakfast, the next weekend, you couldn't. There was no consistency in policy.

The best asset of the hotel is the location. It is right across from Central Park. It is down the street from the Waldorf and Carnegie Hall around the corner and Lincoln Center is down the street as well. Also, very close to times square but not in the craziness of Times Square.
We stayed there about six years ago for one of my birthdays. It was going through room renovations at the time but it did not bother us because we were gone from morning to night enjoying New York to it's fullest.
The room was nice but the bathroom was tiny but probably normal for New York hotels.
We did not eat any meals there because we were too busy enjoying the city and other spots. It was pretty much just a place for us to rest our feet and heads at night.

Stayed here on 12/26/13. Beautifully holiday decorations. WE stayed for free using Marriott points in a basic room. The room was huge compared to other NY hotel rooms. Carriage rides through Central Park were right across the street. Shopping right around the corner. Carnegie Hall a block away. Would definitely stay here again.

Despite other reviews saying that the hotel was losing its appeal and was in need of restoration after being acquired by Marriott we enjoyed our stay here. We had a basic room but it was still perfectly adequate for a NYC visit base. It's right on Central Park, and within a few minutes of the Metro. The hotel is very close to 5th Avenue and all manner of shops and restaurants.

Check in was efficient. When we got to our room on the 3rd floor it was directly opposite the air conditioning plant (very noisy!)... We went to see if we could change to a different room and were offered one on the 25th which was much quieter.

The bathroom was clean and bed was extremely comfortable. One day we accidentally left the DnD sign on and the room was therefore not cleaned. Housekeeping left us an answer phone message to say they had been but not disturbed us and if we wanted the room cleaned then just call. We called, and even though it was relatively late in the evening the room was done quickly and very thoroughly whilst we popped out for some dinner.

The main negative for the hotel was the cost of all of the extras... No coffee/tea facilities are provided but are available at a cost of $30 a day approximately (!), the wifi is approximately $20 a day, and breakfast was approximately $45 each per day... Consequently, we spent very little in the hotel and used much of the surrounding area where wifi is usually free and where coffee is a couple of dollars at most.

We didn't have a park view room but as we were only really using the hotel for sleeping and as a base for our city tour that didn't particularly detract from the stay, especially as the park is only across the road.

Recommended hotel, with great staff, let down by over priced extras.

The staff is professional, gracious and friendly. It will be our only choice to stay. When one travels, one doesnt have all the comfort of home. It's a beautiful older hotel in the Art Deco style. I had no problems or complaints, but I'm easy. It's New York, there will be noise and traffic.

Room Tip: The park view is amazing but it's a personal preference.

This is my 3rd trip here in a year. I excused the problems the first time because it was still transitioning to being a Marriott. I excused the problems the second time because it was super busy during the holidays. This time there are no excuses - it is just a disappointing hotel with an a+ location and what seem like good rates for a marriott in such a prime spot. Don't be fooled by the name brand and the address!
The executive lounge has been closed for repairs two out of three times. The one time I used the lounge it was not impressive anyway - it seems like an employee break room of something. The valet brought the wrong car and I waited almost an hour to get my car. The wait at the desk can be very long at certain times - they don't seem to anticipate this very well. It seems like you have ask at least twice for everything - and in some cases I think they just say they can't help rather than do something (i.e., if you think you are getting a rollaway bed you're probably wrong). The rooms are pretty large for nyc but there are lots of small things broken and the decor is grimy and dirty. You probably won't care enough to have the little things fixed but they will annoy you because you start seeing how the place works and you realize they just don't seem to care enough to fix things like bathroom drains, blinds, stains on carpets, etc. You probably will not be upgraded if you are marriott gold -at least not if they can help it.
We stay in a lot of mariotts and this place does not have the same customer service. It's too bad I have to write this review but I think I might appreciate reading something like this if I were looking for a nyc hotel.
