JW Marriott Essex House New York

I visited over the Christmas holiday so the hotel was a little hectic. Despite this it was a lovely stay with an excellent and friendly staff. I saw no hiccups from the switch to Marriott. The location is top-notch right across from Central Park and right around the corner from 5th Ave. shops. The only issue I had was with the rooms. The modernist decor didn't match the traditional beauty of the hotel and the lights were very confusing. Small issues that can be easily overlooked.

My family of five thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Essex House NYC. The staff was professional and friendly. The rooms were perfect size, decorated beautifully, and we felt very at home! The hotel was across the street from Central Park which was beautiful and great to enjoy. We already look forward to our next visit to NYC in which we all agree we will only choose Essex House NYC!!

We booked this hotel due to a great deal being offered and thought we'd treat ourselves as it was our honeymoon. We upgraded to a Central Park room and had the most gorgeous panoramic view out over the park. The location is perfect, within walking distance to Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller, Radio City Music Hall, Columbus Circle and of course Central Park. We stayed over Christmas 2012 and could not have picked a better hotel. The staff were great, our room was a good size for New York and there was often a musician playing in the lobby which was beautifully decorated and a lovely place to sit and relax. The hotel is close to lots of different subway stations and we made great use of our 7 day pass and saw loads of Manhattan. Would definitely stay again!

Room Tip: We had a Central Park Queen room on a high floor and the view was spectacular. So much so we picked...

My husband and I often come to NYC but this was our first time at the Essex House. For this trip we just wanted to be close to Central Park. Hotel is actually extremely spacious for a NY hotel. Staff was very attentive. You can't beat the view from our room overlooking the park. Our room was nice my only complaint, and it is so superficial, is the orange. I don't find orange in a room very calming or welcoming. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was okay but the tub in the shower is very high and I could see where some would ave trouble getting in and out. I didn't get my Sunday morning paper like requested but otherwise it was a very nice stay. lobby bar was nice but small. We had breakfast in the hotel and the food was delicious.

Just cross the street and you are in Central Park. Great location!

We spent the weekend (2 nights) at the Essex House. Marriott is still working on upgrading it to their standards (work on the Concierge/Executive/Club Lounge was under way in Jan 2013).

Our room was nicely appointed. Room size was as advertised on their website. The largest rooms we have had in Manhattan was at the Four Seasons.

The view of central park was wonderful. The best view we have had in Manhattan was at the Mandarin Oriental.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating.

The restaurant was OK. We had breakfast twice and one supper. The service was very good and the food was average. The tables were in very poor condition; worn out and stained, unusual for a J.W.

We will probably stay again.

Stayed at the JW Marriott Essex House for a weekend in the city. Great location on Central Park South in close proximity to dining and shopping. Walked to MOMA... maybe eight blocks. Always lots to do in the city and the Essex House is a perfect jumping off point. In addition, the room rate was reasonable by Manhattan standards... under $300 per night. Parking is always steep in NYC, so be aware, regardless of where you stay. Our room was very comfortable... not huge, but plenty of room for two. The room was well appointed, clean and fresh looking. Not sure when the latest updating took place, but the entire place was bright and fresh. The only negative we experienced was the fact that the wifi in our room was spotty at best. Customer service was outstanding from check in to check out. Just what we have come to expect from the JW brand. Overall, we had a great weekend and the JW Marriott Essex House was a big part of it.

My regular hotel when in NYC. Decent sized rooms, good service and a great location by Central Park. Gym open 24 hrs a day for any very early risers. No pool though. A decent restaurant and bar on the ground floor.
