Fairfield Inn & Suites New York Manhattan/Downtown East
Ranked #238 of 469 Hotels in New York City
Certificate of Excellence

Positive: staff is exceptional, especially front desk; breakfast is suitable, comfy beds, walking distance to subway, F train.
Negative: strange smell throughout hallway, elevator, resembling a Chinese restaurant kitchen; tiny lobby, limited restaurants within walking distance unless you want Chinese/Italian. However, hotel staff was very helpful in finding suitable restaurants.
Agreed with other reviewer, should be Fairfield Inn/Chinatown instead of downtown, but we weren't bothered by being close to Chinatown.

Room Tip: I could hear train coming/going but once heater/AC on, it masked the noise.

Finding a good, cheap hotel in downtown Manhattan for a family on a Saturday night is next to impossible (stayed there Saturday 11/23). This hotel met all of this criteria and more!! Rooms were clean and well appointed but a little on the small size (it is Manhattan). Breakfast was well done and again all areas clean and neat. Fitness area standard for this level of hotel. What made this stay truly a remarkable experience was the hotel staff!!!! One of my wife's diamond stud earrings fell off during our stay and we could not find it anywhere. We notified the front desk of this and 10 days later we received a call from the hotel. They found this very expensive earring in a crack in the elevator floor!!! Just amazing and exemplary of all of the staff especially Ms. Dawn Marie Klisures who actually found the earring. The honesty and just as important the follow up by the staff is nothing short of fantastic.

The hotel was very new, and clean. After a long day of walking in the city, the bed made a perfect place to rest and was extremely comfortable. The noise wasn't bad at all. The bathroom was big and clean. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I don't have anything to complain about, it was a wonderful stay.

I stayed here this past weekend to see one of my favorite DJ's (TJR) at Webster Hall on Saturday the 23rd. Checkin was super quick, and I was taken care of right away. The location of the hotel is definitely off the beaten path, but there is a subway station about a block and a half away, which is very convenient. The room was clean, and brand new which was perfect! Though I only needed the hotel for a few hours to sleep after a long night, it was well worth the price. It was the cheapest hotel in the area and deserves more then the 3 star rating which is listed on hotel sites. 4+ for quality and service!

I missed the breakfast in the morning, but just headed into mid-town to grab a bite. Was very successful trip and would definitely stay here again. To pay $100+ more per night to stay in mid-town doesn't make sense but would definitely save you some $$$ from a cab, though it really wasn't bad at all!

Room Tip: Had room 205 which faced the street. Was very quiet!

The hotel is new and very nice. The hotel staff is very friendly and attentive. They serve daily breakfast, which was a nice perk each day since there weren't many eateries around. The hotel is on the edge of Chinatown and within walking distance of Little Italy (and some good restaurants!), but not convenient to much else. Subways are a few minutes walk away, but nothing direct to the theater area. Cab rides to the theater district were about $20. The hotel is very close to the Manhattan Bridge but we did not hear any traffic or train noise

The hotel is clearly new and amenities were solid for a Fairfield Inn- clean room, very friendly staff, nice breakfast, and an excellent fitness center with two treadmills and free weights that exceeded my expectations. The hotel was a good experience, especially for the price in NYC.

My only problem was the location. Partially my fault as I booked it, but it should really be titled Manhattan/Chinatown, which was disappointing for me as I wanted to be able to walk to get a slice of pizza for a quick lunch and couldn't do it. The bigger problem is that it's close to the Manhattan Bridge. Great view of the bridge, and the car/road noise wasn't an issue. But the subway trains were really loud- the same sort of sound as when a loud AC unit in a hotel room goes off. But this happened every 2 minutes all night long. So the hotel is completely worth it if you think you can sleep through that sort of noise.

So while it was a nice, new, clean hotel, the location was a turnoff for me and I'll probably take my chances elsewhere next time.

Room Tip: I stayed on the side closest to the bridge. I'd recommend something opposite the bridge if at al...
