“Poke Poops Out”
Reviewed October 29, 2013

The portions are very very small, the food is expensive and they only take cash, no credit cards.
For what they charge, find another restaurant that gives you bang for your bucks.

“Great Little Local Spot”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

I was introduced to this place several years ago by a friend, and it never disappoints. Their sushi rolls offer such an interesting and delicious combination of flavors. My only complaint is that some of the tables are rather close together. No one sat next to us for most of the meal, but at the tale end two women were seated a little too close for my comfort. Be mindful of where you are seated and enjoy the sushi!

“Too little too late”
Reviewed November 22, 2012

This restaurant was an attempt to revive the spirit of the late, lamented Cal's of W22nd Street, the only restaurant of its kind in the neighborhood at the time and still. Unfortunately, the owner (Cal) and his manager (Chris) went for a $15 burger in a neighborhood where that would not sell and forgot to include the highly excellent bar staff of Cal's. Instead they offered expensive food in a neighborhood of many less expensive choices, and the best adjective to describe the bar staff was "unfriendly." It was a fatal combination, and the restaurant failed. Too bad; I really liked the owner.

“Very nice BYO sushi place”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

Very nice sushi and very helpful staff (we didn't know it was BYO, and they promptly helped me find a liquor store).
The quality and price is perfectly matched, just be aware they are cash only and no reservations.

“Good but beware the BYOB policy”
Reviewed July 14, 2011

Visited with two friends and as usual we each bring a bottle of wine. Having not read anyhting about Poke's policy, we were somewhat surprised that for a group of three, we were only allowed 1 bottle or pay a corkage of $20 for each additional bottle. considering we didn't have time to relocate and it looked like rain, we decided to stay and incur the $40 charge. Bottom line, I'm glad we did. We all thought the food was outstanding. After a few appys, we shared several rolls, with the Truffle roll being our favorite. The waitstaff was both friendly and attentive (vs some prior posts here) and at the end of the night, they only charged us for 1 additonal bottle. We left happy and satisfied. Thus, would I go back? Yes, but not for the same type of wine tasting meal we like to arrange.
