We stayed at the Courtyard New York/Times Square for one day prior to embarking on a 7 day Maritimes / New England cruise. We chose this hotel for location and price (I have a relative that works for a local Marriott hotel, and we received her Friends & Family discount).
This was our first time in NYC. The hotel was about a 30 minute ($40) cab ride from LaGuardia.
When we arrive, the cab door was opened by a bellman, and the first words out of his mouth were "Welcome to New York City. You have chosen the best hotel in the city for your stay." That certainly set the tone for our visit. Check in was quick and friendly. The desk clerk also gave us a tour of the lobby area and an overview of the neighborhood.
The hotel is either brand new, or completely renovated. The room was larger than I expected, nicely decorated, and equipped with fridge, safe, coffee maker and a wall mounted TV.The bathroom was huge. Our room faced away from the street, so there wasn't much of a view - but also no street noise.
The location was great. We were less than 100 yards off of 8th Avenue. Lots of shops, close to Madison Square Garden, and a 10 minute walk to Times Square. There was a 7-11 around the corner for snacks and drinks, We also discovered "2 Bros Pizza" (a by-the-slice shop)...We stayed at the Courtyard New York/Times Square for one day prior to embarking on a 7 day Maritimes / New England cruise. Probably not the best pizza in NYC, but the price was right, and it sure was tasty :)
Summary: Great hotel, great location, great rooms, excellent staff. We will definitely stay again when we next visit NYC.More
