Description: Established in 1936, Monkey Bar was returned to its former glory in 2009 by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse. Monkey Bar's menu boasts American classics alongside seasonal dishes using sustainable and organic products whenever possible.

I ate in the bar area, which was a bit tight but fine. Service was attentive without being overly so. I had a cocktail which was very good. I had the hamburger, not fancy but very good. French fries were good, too. This isn't a particularly fancy spot, and I didn't have a fancy meal. But, it sort of felt like I did. This was a business dinner between two people. Due to size of bar eating area, I would not recommend more than 4 people together. Two couples in a booth would be a nice, quaint dinner.

Nice surroundings but a disppointing small menue and rather expensive for what it was. Service good food rather average and wines expensive.

We booked Monkey Bar for dinner on NYE as it was one of the few places that wasn't enforcing a set menu or a ridiculous cover charge - when we arrived, it was clear they didn't need to. This has all the charm of a cosy neighbourhood restaurant but all the class of a big-player. There's an old-school vibe to the place, with vintage touches here and there; even the bar at the front (before we reach the main dining room) makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside, with its dim-lighting, witty decor and warming, skillfully-made cocktails. The food in the main restaurant offers the classics but with a twist; I had smoked pasta which was out of this world. The service is discreet and unobtrusive and regardless of the occasion - there were a mix of families, friends, couples and groups in when we dined - this place seemingly is the perfect fit.

Great food and lively place......The bar fills up with young, middle aged and older crowd that all adds to the ambiance. The happy hour folks are full of cheer because their days work is over and tourists are wide-eyed with all the excitement. Drinks are tasty as well.....Friendly bar staff too!

We are staying at Hotel Élysée and this our "hotel bar". It has been a marvelous home base. We've had pre-dinner cocktails, night caps and tonight actually dined there. The food was delicious. I had the chopped salad and the pasta carbonara. The salad was straight-forward... The pasta, very rich and succulent.
