I've been to the Monkey Bar twice this year, and both times the food and service were great. This is one of the quintessential New York restaurants that should be on anyone's shortlist of places to eat in midtown east. Although in a hotel, the restaurant does not attract a touristy crowd - be prepared to be seated among a lot of office workers wearing suits. The service is prompt and attentive, they have a great wine list (with several good options around $40 and going up from there) and a menu that strikes the right balance of offering variety without being overwhelming. The food itself is well prepared, the dishes tend to be on the more basic side but executed perfectly.
