Description: Established in 1936, Monkey Bar was returned to its former glory in 2009 by Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter. The dining room's lush red leather banquettes and dim, attractive lighting have restored the fizzy thrill of dining in a restaurant - both attractive and cozy - and harken back to a bygone era when a gentleman never left the house without a tie and a lady always had a pair of white gloves in her purse. Monkey Bar's menu boasts American classics alongside seasonal dishes using sustainable and organic products whenever possible.

“Love Monkey Bar!”
Reviewed May 6, 2013

Love the atmosphere...the mix of the wall murals, low lighting, classic jazz playing, and cozy booths make for a delightful setting reminiscent of bygone days. Excellent, accomodating service (our waiter brought out a tray of eyeglasses out for my use b/c I had forgotten mine...nice touch!) but not in your face. The food was very good, the lobster bisque and crab cake appetizers were outstanding, would've preferred a choice of sides for the sirloin (it came with fries, but I could've probably asked to substitute) but the steak was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Nice wine list.

Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is for the complicated reservation system (you have to not only make a reservation but call again within 24 hours of your arrival to confirm), which we did and would've been fine except the restaurant was surprisingly more than half empty the entire time we were there, on a Saturday night. Oh well...I will happily reserve again and visit next time I am in NYC...it's a gem of a place with delightful character.

“Very Enjoyable...”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

While in NY recently I visited the bar and restaurant on a few occasions and loved the feeling, ambiance and food. Everything was easy, tasteful and as it should be. Cocktails were great and menu was varied and enticing. Service was good on all visits and I`ll certainly be back for more!

“Excellent food, wonderful ambience”
Reviewed April 16, 2013 via mobile

There is no real downside to the Monkey Bar. The ambience and food are first-class, as is the service. Although somewhat pricey I plan to return there frequently.
