Description: At 48 years old, Le Perigord features classic French cuisine in an elegant setting. Le Perigord just renovated the whole restaurant in 2011, don't forget to come in and take a look at our beautiful new decor. The New York Times calls it "a French restaurant the way French restaurants used to be;" complete with starched white linen tablecloths and exemplary service from wait staff in tuxedos. In addition to tableside service of Dover sole, duck a l'orange and rack of lamb, the traditional fare also includes such staples as individual beef Wellington, quenelles of pike, coquilles St Jacques and kidneys in mustard sauce, and don't forget to leave room for the fabulous souffles and the legendary "temptation trolley" of desserts which always includes such timeless favorites as tarte Tatin, chocolate mousse and floating islands. The extensive, award-wining wine list includes a fine selection of both old & recent vintages, all at sensible prices.

We came for food and got great French food. The service was very friendly (the maitre d' was happy to be able to speak French with me) and helpful. As a lot of guests arrived at the same time, the check-in was very slow and chaotic though, spoiling the good start.

Also the service was somewhat overwhelmed by the fully booked place and not according the restaurant's reputation.

The place itself reminded me more of a middle class appartment out of the 80-ies, not being renovated ever since.

Overall, great French food at fair prices in a musty location.

Although I'm thrilled that you were impressed with our dishes, I wish that our atmosphere had left you with the same positive feeling. We've always felt that our decor was reflective of a by-gone era, and most of our guests feel that they've stepped into a time gone by when they walk through our doors. Still, we appreciate your feedback, and your candor regarding your server. No matter how busy we are, you should always feel at home, and we apologize if you felt rushed. That said, what you experienced isn't an example of our best, but we know we can do better. I hope we'll have a chance to demonstrate that when you're back in New York.

Regards,
Georges Briguet - Le Perigord

This is a classic in NYC - although not many tourist guides recommend it. I definitely had a great time with my family here, on a dinner in cold February. The food was delicious, the wine was good, and the ambiance was quite picturesque.

We had been to this elegant restaurant a couple of times, and decided to go back for restaurant week. You don't get the full menu to choose from, but a very good selection and the best part is that the plates selected are exactly the same as on the regular menu.
For $38 is a great value, and our experience with the staff couldn't be nicer. We did not find them at all stuffy or "tired", they were very attentive and friendly. I even asked for a different table after we were seated as we were directly under one AC vent and it was a bit too cold. We were accomodated immediately at the table I suggested.
With or without restaurant week, it's a very nice place to go.

I went with my girlfriend here for the first time for restaurant week. The $38 dinner was amazing, fantastic, superb! What else can I say. The room was elegant, understated and very French. The service was top notch. The cold gazpacho was excellent. The vegetable terrine delicious. The salmon very fresh, as was the crab cake. We finished off with the desserts. The mousse was very pleasant.
