This was my second visit, and I had the same sense both times (give them points for consistency): The steaks are large, the steaks are expensive, the drinks are generous, and the place is best enjoyed by males with convivial male business partners on expense account. Then you won't care that you won't finish your expensive steak and that the slab may be off a little re temperature (mine, ordered medium-rare, arrived seared with raw interior, like tuna) . . . or that the service is curiously joyless.

Best steak I have had HANDS DOWN! Also try and save some room for the cheesecake--it was to DIE for!

“Mignon it isn't; massive it is”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

Traditional NYC steakhouse, with a nicer decor than Lugers. Get's very busy, so you need to book. I had a sirloin, which was excellent, and my colleagues had Filet Mignon, which was about the size of a football. We ordered hash browns and asparagus, but ate only the steak. Superbly cooked steaks.

“Mmmmm Steak but good oysters too!”

Always have a good meal and bottles of wine at Sparks. Sat in a corner where we couldn't be seen by the crowd. Wonderful.

“Great steaks, but...”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

The steaks at Sparks are delicious & worth the trip. Expensive, yes, but no more so than any other "fancy" steakhouse in the city. Serving size is quite large - so ask first. You might get to enjoy some of your steak as leftovers.

As for sides, definitely big enough to share between two people (and the server split each we ordered into two plates for us). "Mixed green" salad was disappointing; at this time of year, I'd expect actual greens, rather than a romaine salad (that is a bit overdressed). Hash brown potatoes were good, though I found them salty. In my opinion, neither "side" was worth what I paid.

Bottled beer was overpriced, even for the city. $7 for a bottle of Coors light is ridiculous!

Desserts were good, and portions small (which might bother some people, but it didn't bother me as I was so full already). Pecan pie was a bit sweet, and chocolate cake was yummy but nothing out-of-this-world.

Service was fantastic, though I was disappointed that there was no "freebie" for a birthday celebration. Setting was classy.

With so many other steak places to try in the city (avoiding chains), I'm not sure I'd return here on my next visit.
