Great place for quality steaks and top-notch service. Extensive wine list. Reminds me of Gibsons in Chicago. Zero complaints!

Considered to be one of the more affordable high-quality steakhouses, I have learned afterwards that Sparks Steakhouse is also known for having an extensive and well-valued wine list. The prime sirloin steak is the most revered cut of meat, and the Roquefort dressing is also highly recommended.

There's lots of really good steakhouses in NY but Sparks is definitely one of the better ones. Top notch food and very good service. I also like the ambiance and the fact that they have lots of rooms and it is easy for a group to find a quiet or private corner and enjoy a meal in seclusion and not be in some large noisy room. The price of the meal is not cheap but all the top steakhouses are expensive so it is no different here.

My fiancee and I ate here for the first time on the Friday night of snowstorm in Feb 2013. It was not a busy night as there were many tables free. We split the shrimp cocktail and the server was nice enough to serve it in two separate plates. The shrimp were large and juicy and the cocktail sauce was delicious. We then both ordered the mixed green salad. Unfortunately one of the salads was not washed thoroughly and we found a fly in it. The waiter apologized and brought out a fresh salad replacement. We then both ordered the Prime Sirloin steak and when they were brought out the waited made sure we cut the steak in half before eating to ensure it was cooked to our liking - unfortunately, one of the steaks came out medium rare when we ordered medium, so it was re-cooked. Because of the mistake with the steak, he brought out hash brown potatoes (which were mediocre) to go with our broccoli side. The steaks (once cooked correctly) were seasoned well and were delicious. For all of the mishaps, the waiter then offered us both free dessert and coffee at the end of the night. Meanwhile, at the table next to us, two lobster replacements were brought out for the lobsters that the guest did not seem to enjoy.
Overall we wanted to like this steakhouse since it was recommended as one of the classic New York steakhouses, but unfortunately it fell below our expectations in terms of cooking consistency. But the service was excellent and the waiter was very kind/apologetic to us. Maybe it was an off night....
