We had a great meal here last weekend. The food was fresh and perfectly seasoned and the service was excellent. The calamari was outstanding. The salads are wonderful and the seafood is very fresh. The menu has a big selection with something for everyone.

“Amazing Greek Seafood”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

This restaurant is terrific to go to with business clients or just friends. A cozy atmosphere with the tiles and wood throughout the restaurant. Fun to eat inside or outside in their courtyard. Seafood is incredibly fresh and delicious with lots of options to choose from. The crispy zucchini and eggplant chips are amazing. I have never have had a bad meal or poor service here.

“Fresh and done well”

We had a very good experience. The best was the grilled calamari appetizer. The Portuguese sardines a bit disappointing. The loup de mer out of this world. You cannot always have your choice. Some fish are too large for single serving and some only for three or four. Waiter service was perfunctory, however he was extremely knowledgeable about wine and fish. Stil a good experience and will return

“What's so special?”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 25, 2013

If a fish dinner with drinks runs just about $100 pp, the fish better be spectacular...or something you can't reproduce in your own kitchen. At Avra...it neither. Ok...to be fair, the cocktails are great. So, if you want to hang out at the bar and have (recommended) grilled octopus or such...go for it. But, if you prefer to be ripped off for average fish...then have a seat. And be prepared to be pointed in the direction of the most expensive ("imported" Greek snapper) item on the menu ($57/lb...a la carte) by your waiter. Almost all the fish is grilled and de-boned....well, almost de-boned...except for the graveyard pile of bones that ended up on my, and my partner's plates. As for the taste...bland...at best. Better be liberal with the lemon wedge (no extra charge.) Seriously, I'm a life-long New Yorker. . I dine out frequently in the city. I pay more for a meal...and less. I still don't understand why this place has such a good reputation... except that it's a corporate meeting place...convenient for business types who may be fishing on the company dime.

“Excellence!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 23, 2013

Top of the line dining experience worth going out of your way and the somewhat higher than usual pricing. The service was flexible, gracious and professional. The food was melt in your mouth delicious; we had the grilled swordfish and prawns, with impeccably matched given sides as well as a side of sauteed spinach perfect for two; the plating was eye candy. The ambiance is attractive/classy Greek design with starched white tablecloths! Perfection doesn't need elaboration, don't think twice - put this on your go to list!
