I stumbled across this place as I was walking back from the UN on 49th street. Tucked away in a corner, sits the Bukhara Grill. The first site of an Indian Restaurant is enough to send hunger pangs in Manhattan....specially if its been ageas since you had one!

I walked in and was greeted with friendly staff and walked up where there was a fantastic buffet spread waiting for me! The ambience is very nice and the team is very professional. The buffet is good and starts with Indian street food classics like paani puri, aloo tikki chaat and then moving to a live vegetable grill and meat grill, followed by vaiours Indian pickles and sides. The main fare had a quite a few items from vegetables, to paneer, chicken and mutton along with a delectable dal bukhara. The breads were hot and fluffy and kept coming. The pulao was a definite try!
For desserts these guys had gajar halwa and rice kheer, which was just perfect. All in all the bill came to $18 and this is an all you can eat buffet. Try it....its good!
The only thing which I found odd was no wifi.....I hope someone's told them its 2014!!!

Bukhara Grill is on the east side near the UN. The restaurant is known to be good but expensive among expats. It is indeed expensive for typical restaurant. The restaurant occupies the entire building and has fallen behind in its daily maintenance. While the food is good, the service was truly unprofessional. The wait staff were rude and intrusive. The food to value ratio is poor for NYC.

This restaurant is a great place to have a meal. The food is excellent and truly highlights the great flavors of the Indian cuisine. They have so many wonderful dishes that is difficult to recommend only one or two so, try the grill platter, the lamb, the egg plant, the lentils the different types of rice and of course the incredible breads. The place is somewhat small and their main sitting area is "cozy" but, like most restaurants in New York that is the beauty off it. The service is implacable and the prices are reasonable. Overall is always a great experience.

I went to Bukhara for lunch and I can suggest that its better than many other restaurants in the city, but surely not the best.

Great Food, sit upstairs whatever you do and do not let them sit you downstairs. Very good service as well. Everything is good on this menu. The Mixed Grill platter is the most wonderful dish you could have. Their breads and various rice dishes are far superior to anything that I have tried in any Indian Restaurant in New York and I have been to many. Great vegetable dishes as well and I tried the fied okra and it was great.
