My husband and I recently went to Per Se. We went for dinner, and were there for 3+ hours. The restaurant itself is lovely and the large fire, the views of Central Park and the cosy spacious tables are great.
The food is excellent, on par with the very best, and you do get a ton of food, so go on an empty stomach. Particular highlights for us was the island oysters combined with the white sturgeon caviar, a Per Se staple. This mix is particularly good. The short rib ravioli with melted leeks was also a perfect pairing. The desserts were excellent. The assortment of extra goodies (macaroons, hard candy, truffles, and hand made chocolates in addition to the beignets) really puts the meal over the top. The service is top notch, and combines the perfect mix of professionalism with friendliness. Of course this restaurant is very expensive, but for a once in a lifetime dining experience it definitely delivers.

We were able to get a reservation for lunch and enjoyed it a lot! Both went for the 5 course option.
A cheese ball and salmon cone for amuse and both good. Caviar in foamy cauliflower was great as well. Veggies dish, nice combination and nicely fried for those needing to be.
Scallop, wow. Big, nice and tasty. Something special.
Pork, good but a bit too fatty.
Lamb, perfectly cooked and a very nice sauce.
Desserts overall great, very well made and a plenty. Actually at the end of lunch I was overfull and could hardly have more. So got a little box to carry out. Espresso with the desserts good.
Breads were nice, albeit not remarkable. Butter with them good.
Service a tad bit cold but very professional and quick. Water glasses always full.
Value for money also nice, service included, so was sparkling water and coffee/espresso which actually makes the price reasonable for this level of restaurant.

Would love to go back, but maybe five course meal with the better caviar and wagyu that time.

I was disappointed that we could not get a dinner reservation here so instead went for lunch. It was a rainy day, we arrived at 12.15.....and it was PERFECT.
The food, the service, the wines, the presentation, the view of a grey-washed Columbus Circle - there is nothing I can fault (except perhaps too many chocolates at the end of the meal).
We are well-travelled and dine out a great deal. This was a most memorable meal.

We've dined at Per Se in the past but last night we wanted a light supper after a matinee. The doors at Per Se open ay 5:30 and we seated ourselves at the lounge area. Very comfortable and romantic! Their menu for that area was all the regular courses but priced separately! We shared delicious agnolotti. Then two portions of the lamb accompanied by a good Pinot . Yum!! Should have skipped dessert because it wasn't very special at all! But the people watching was superb so I say go!

It takes about 3 hours to dine at Per Se. Every serving is incredible and wine pairings are masterful. Staff are exceptional. After you leave, walking back to the hotel, you may wonder why did I spend so much money on that food? A few days, and maybe years, later you will remember it as the quintessential culinary experience of your life. Of which, once is enough!
