My husband and I recently went to Per Se. We went for dinner, and were there for 3+ hours. The restaurant itself is lovely and the large fire, the views of Central Park and the cosy spacious tables are great.
The food is excellent, on par with the very best, and you do get a ton of food, so go on an empty stomach. Particular highlights for us was the island oysters combined with the white sturgeon caviar, a Per Se staple. This mix is particularly good. The short rib ravioli with melted leeks was also a perfect pairing. The desserts were excellent. The assortment of extra goodies (macaroons, hard candy, truffles, and hand made chocolates in addition to the beignets) really puts the meal over the top. The service is top notch, and combines the perfect mix of professionalism with friendliness. Of course this restaurant is very expensive, but for a once in a lifetime dining experience it definitely delivers.
