Description: Restaurant Aquavit opened to immediate success in midtown Manhattan in November 1987. More than two decades later, Aquavit continues to be one of New York's most popular and highly esteemed dining destinations. A pioneer on the American dining scene, Aquavit remains the only world-class modern Scandinavian restaurant in the country, and was also the first restaurant in New York to house two concepts under one roof: a casual bistro serving hearty, simple fare and a formal dining room offering refined, modern Scandinavian cuisine. Owner Håkan Swahn has always been involved with every aspect of the business, and his passion and vision are what steer the restaurant. Executive Chef Marcus Jernmark is in the kitchen every day, where his talent and his commitment to quality and authenticity are apparent in every ingredient he purchases and every dish he prepares. Swahn and Jernmark collaborate closely on Aquavit's menus, and together they provide leadership and inspiration to the team at Aquavit.

The food all tasted wonderful, but what is most memorable is the beauty of the presentation. Each dish was like it came off the page in a magazine. We had a group of 17 and every dish was nearly identical and absolutely beautiful. I'd eat here again just to look at the food.

I loved Aquavit in New York city. Cool, fun, chic dining experience. Great food and perfect for special occasions. We went for the tasting menu which was full of amazing surprises. Every time we thought we were done something new came to excite our palate. I loved the restaurant itself as well, modern wooden furniture with funky scandinavian decor. The staff are really friendly and very professional. The food is really delicious and the presentation is original. I would recommend trying it to any foodie.

The owners of this place just continue to come up with ways to keep Scandinavian cuisine at the forefront of what's hip yet keeps its ties with tradition.

What does all the mean?

Simply that whatever gorgeous new creation is presented on your plate will have ties to a traditional recipe, only better.

The same goes for the sleek and modern wood interiors. With just a hint of tradition in fabrics or leather blends for a perfect union.

Everyone it seems, from the reservation to bus person cleaning off your table, are trained to be discreet yet effective. And it all works beautifully together.

Proves that Swedish food is way more than smorgasbord. Excellent, elegant restaurant with attentive service, beautiful modern decor and fine menu - with none of the overbearing pretentiousness or false solicitude so often seen in "high end" establishments. Though menu was somewhat limited, there was ample choice, with emphasis on seafood. The "tasting menu" looked great, but was only available if for for 2 guests and we like to share a variety so instead we had selections from the "4 course" options available. Everything was well prepared, perfectly seasoned with nice presentation. Extensive wine list.

We arrived early and spent some time in the small "open area" bar area. Excellent array of all the usual spirits, plus a selection after the restaurant's namesake, akvavit. Do try the pumpkin or horseradish flavored ones!

Absolutely wonderful dinner out with friends - from start to finish. The restaurant staff took care of us all through the meal and the food was absolutely delicious. All three of us had the pre-fixe menu which had many choices for non-meat eaters.
