Caviar Russe is unique and that is no mean feat in NYC. This was our first time at the restaurant, and we were surprised by the size of the place (a small L of a dining room, the Friday night we were there four other parties were having dinner and the room could fit only 2-3 more but that was perfectly fine as it gave a nice intimate feel to the place). The menu is flexible -- you can order only caviar, only raw fish or a 3, 5 or 10 course tasting menu or all of the above or a la carte etc. We decided on a sampler of caviar (fabulous, with home made blinis!) and then the three course menu; I could not finish my dessert. The food is expensive, but you get what you pay for in this case. The wine, on the other hand, was quite reasonably priced for NYC restaurants. Another standout is the service -- Armando in particular is the perfect maitre d'. We'll be back.

We can state responsibly and without exaggeration that Caviar Russe is one of the best restaurants we have ever been to. The smaller dining area on the second floor facing the chic Madison Ave features creatively magnificent interior. Every detail of the interior, be in the picturesque murals depicting the themes and the characters of the Russian fairy tales or the amazingly intricate chandeliers, everything adds up to create a majestic yet very cozy and comfortable environment.
The china, utensils, tables and chairs are of the utmost quality. The service is not just impeccable, but equally friendly and personalized.
But of course the main component is the food. Though the restaurant only offers 3, 5, and 10 courses tasting menus, one wouldn't feel limited as far as the menu choices are concerned. Everything we tried was simply amazing. We would like especially to recommend - and quite highly at that - the Spring Creek Oyster (Cucumber, Crème Fraiche, Classic Osetra) and Hamachi (Coconut, Pineapple, Vadouvan). The Lamb Saddle & Shank (Eggplant, Piquillo Pepper, Chorizo) and Wild Striped Bass (Potato, Miso, Black Truffle, Mizuna) were equally of the highest level, the true epitome of haute-cuisine. And the desserts were not just a nice addition to a great dinner but rivaled the rest of the meal in its uniqueness and delicacy.
The restaurant's chef Christopher Agnew worked for such fabled restaurateurs as Alain Ducasse and the chefs of Le Cirque, and he excelled both (we have had the privilege to try several restaurants of the former and just recently visited the latter). Good luck to Christopher Agnew and his team.
We can't recommend Caviar Russe high enough. Will absolutely come again.

We asked our concierge for a place for a light lunch. Not what we expected when we walked through the door on Madison Avenue but it was exquisite. Scrambled egg with caviar. There is no going back!

The concierge booked us for our last meal in NYC for a light lunch...

The menu was not light in price but the food was exquisite.

You must go! It is so out of the ordinary !

If you like caviar then this restaurant is for you. They have a selection of caviars from the Caspian, Siberia and the Pacific Northwest. My husband and I don't know a thing about caviar except that we like it when it's offered so we decided to spring for a selection and tried one from each of those regions. It was expensive but we enjoyed learning about and tasting the differences. We found out that this place is the major source of caviar for the entire city.

So, besides a crazy selection of caviars the food and the service was fantastic. I had the turbot with the squid ink pasta and my husband had the suckling pig. Both were delicious. Great chocolate and caramel dessert topped off the experience.

This is a great place for a special occasion. Very romantic setting. We will definitely go back.
