Description: Under the guidance of the Livanos family and Co-Owner Paul McLaughlin, Oceana has provided New Yorkers with an exceptional seafood destination since 1992. Oceana's a la carte menu, coupled with its convenient Midtown/Theater District location, make it a perfect spot for a quick business lunch or pre-theater dinner. From the spectacular marble bar to the fresh lobsters and whole fish cooked to order, as well as a significant selection of prime meats, the team delivers a fresh, innovative and approachable menu. Oceana has a 70 seat Cafe with a 18 seat marble bar. Great for lunch, after work cocktails & snacks, pre-theater dinner and post-theater desserts. An award winning international wine list with some 800 selections. Spring and Summer bring a 75 seat outdoor dining area, private dining options include our Chef's table for 4-5 to our Grand Salon for 80.

I recently dined at Oceana with some business colleagues. For those of you who remember the original Oceana - the one with the 5-star luxury ocean liner feel to it - this is a different restaurant. I say that to set expectations, but also to be fair to the restaurant. The food is very good, with some interesting options. You will not be disappointed by the General Tso's Lobster - wow, fantastic! The fluke tartare was also very good.

However, while the food is solid, and the space relaxing, the service was a bit odd. Our waiter did not take a drink order at any point in the meal. Literally not once did he ask anyone at the table if they would like something to drink. How odd, and wouldn't the manager be upset to know that the waiter missed out on another hundred dollars of revenue? Our waiter also didn't seem to know how to break into our conversation to take our order, so we sat and talked, he lurked, and then we talked some more. We had to finally call him over.

All in all, I would go back. The service was not that off that it overshadowed the excellent food.

Was on a double date with some old friends and our waitress made our night! She let us leisurely enjoy the afternoon because unlike most diners we weren't pre-theater. As suggested by her, the halibut and dorade were superb and perfectly pared with our wine by the stewart and cherry cheesecake was really the cherry on top! Will be back for more dates!

I think this restaurant is geared more toward business diners than couples or families. The service was very impersonal and not very timely. The main course was well cooked and presented (halibut in a crisp rice coating). Salad was unexciting (just a heap of cut greens with too much dressing). The location of the restaurant is good. The decor is dark and drab and could use some colorful focus. Adequate if you are in the area, but don't make a special trip!

I greatly enjoyed this sparkling restaurant in mid town. Situated in the midst of gigantic buildings you almost expect steak and chops restaurant. This is wonderful seafood place with many business meetings and well attired groups here. I found the seafood top rate but prices are pretty high for a leisure meal.
