“Have You Tried Sakagura's New Lunch Kiosk?”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

On the first floor of the same building where Sakagura is, a soft opening of a kiosk opened up. They have about four bento take outs which are made at Sakagura. I had the fish bento and it was quite good. It's on the right of the elevator and a guard will ask where you are going but just tell him you are going to the kiosk. It is a small place but compared to the bentos at other places, I enjoyed this one though the selections are limited. Haven't tried the restaurant but deciding whether to try this place or next door Soba Toto.

“Unusual Japanese cuisine... feels authentic and is delicious”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

We had a great time. We sampled so many things and they weren't the usual boring fare so many restaurants put out. This place has delicious and unusual Japanese food. You have to try it. We had the tasting menu... it was great!

“Basic lunch place”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Sakagura is a favourite for midtown Japanese food foodies. Its not expensive at lunch, good value and authentic. I usually take the cooked food rather than the raw, and a favourite is the seaweed salad, the tempura and the eel rice. The daily specials come with soba noodles hot or cold.I went with two guest fro a broad and they enjoyed the food but we were ushered out bruskly because we took too long to eat. Its a fast in and out place so avloid it unless its a fast lunch.

“Nice meal”
Reviewed April 1, 2013 via mobile

Look for the white office building and go in. Then you will find the sign to go down stairs for the restaurant. It was fun and felt bohemian adventure. They serve only sake no wine or bar. The food was good and adventurous.

“Authentic Japanese Izakaya in Midtown Manhattan”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

Don't let the fact that this Japanese restaurant is located in the basement of an office building fool you. This place is the real deal. If you're like me and don't like sushi, but appreciate homestyle Japanese dishes like agadashi tofu and beef cooked on a stone, you'll love Sakagura. The sake list is also very impressive.

I would say that it's better to go there for lunch rather than dinner, just because the atmosphere isn't all that exciting. And maybe the service is a bit faster at lunch too.
