Description: Russian Samovar, a landmark restaurant in New York City with rich history, started operations in 1986, and later partnered with Mikhail Baryshnikov and Nobel Prize winning poet Joseph Brodski. We are proud to have won numerous Best of New York awards for our food and flavored vodkas. We support the art community by hosting poetry readings, art shows, and now theater productions. The space has a unique layout with private event space upstairs, which consists of a lounge area and bar, and a private dining room with a balcony. Downstairs is an open dining area and bar with an atmosphere celebrating our Russian heritage. The white piano centerpiece donated by Mr. Baryshnikov ties together our bar with our dining room, and is one of our sources of nightly live music - everything from classic piano scores to Russian / gyspy music on a weekends, as well as jazz on Sundays.

If you want to try some authentic Russian- this is a good spot. Not super expensive- a good value for what you get. Good Herring appetizer. We had Borscht, beef strogonoff, duck, and even some horseradish vodka. There is a piano bar and some nice Russian tea servers and posters. This is a gathering spot for native Russian speakers. If you have not tried Russian food, this is a very good staring point.

This place has great Russian food! It was amazing experience and our server was just awesome! This restaurant is kind of small (by our standards LOL), but we had no problem getting a table for 8 people. If you are heading there during busy evening hours, call to check if they have available tables.

I don't really know what to say other than I liked everything I tried there. Not sure if it's NY prices, but I would rate this place being on the more expensive side.

Iconing place among some Russian speaking people. Food is good, come on Friday or Saturday nights. All the famous Russian emigrants come there often. Even one of the episodes of Sex in the City was shot there.

To experience something a bit different and at the same time enjoy a fun dining experience, this is the place to visit. Know for the different vodkas it serves, it also has a wide variety of food to taste and enjoy. From appetizer to entree, you can experience Russian food courses. Although a bit pricey, it can be a wonderful experience and good for theatre goers.

Having lived in Russia during the 90s, I have eaten a lot of Russian food, and when visiting NYC recently, I was excited to try this restaurant. It exceeded my expectation. Each dish was not only prepared authentically, it was simply delicious and beautifully presented. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The only disappointment came when I ordered the Russian soup, okroshka, made with kvass, they were out of kvass. We substituted borsht instead, and it was sweet and tart, fragrant with julienne carrots and beets. Varennyki with mushrooms and potatoes are savory and rich. Tea is served in the charming metal holders that you find on the Russian trains and accompanied by a dish of sour cherry jam. Russian Samovar is not cheap, but well worth it if you want to try Russian cuisine. Well situated near Times Square if you are headed to the theater.
