“Cheap, great flavour, quick service.”
Reviewed November 29, 2012

From the outside it is a bit messy, not in the best decorative order and quite noisy. Ignore this, sit down and enjoy the food. Plenty of Asian people eating which is always a good sign for me.

Good value for portion size and taste. Would definately return to this location.

We had sizzling beef with brocoli (143) and House special crispy chicken in sesame seeds (152) with rice and some sides and it was fantastic.Rich flavours and very well cooked. Good portion size and delivered quickly.

No alcohol licence if this is important to you. There are a couple of liquer stores nearby on the same road. We did not ask about corkage. Polite service in the traditional chinese quick manner but not over attentive or effusive. Lots of take aways going out the door suggesting repeat business.

This is a simple and quick meal with great taste. Well recommended.

“Quite good food ... and highy affordable!”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

Let's understand at the outset that "elegant it ain't"! "Ambience" is negligible and the service is too often perfunctory. HOWEVER, in this time of tight money, Mee Noodle Shop at Ninth Avenue & West 53 Street is a major find! A wide variety of dishes and never heavy-handed on the spice makes dining here worthwhile -- the food quality ranges from acceptable to excellent. A large bowl of soup here is a meal! Don't expect too much from their "sauces" ... but the generous portions will mean "doggy bag" time. It's one of the last places on Ninth Avenue where the tab is not painful when presented. Still, with the wonderful El Azteca just a few doors down the street, you may want to cashier the idea of having Chinese food and spring for a few more bucks and have excellent Mexican food instead!

“Unfriendly service and so-so food”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

We chose this because it was close to our hotel.

Our server was amazingly unfriendly. They had a computerized ordering system that kept chiming out that there was a new order, which was annoying since they seated us right near the cash register area. There seemed to be a lot of people just hanging out there - they weren't working, but weren't customers either.

The food was just OK - I had general tso's chicken and it was fried rock hard with a sauce that wasn't remotely spicy. My daughter had sweet and sour chicken which was OK, but both entrees contained (as other reviews have noted) a lot of gristle and fat.

It was really run down and seemed a bit dirty. All the articles on the wall about how great the restaurant is were dated 1992! If they haven't had a favorable review in the past 20 years they can post, may want to skip this one. Kind of bummed that we wasted a meal in New York on this place.

“A Real Treat!”
Reviewed July 28, 2012

This authentic noodle shop in Manhattan is more like a fast food establishment done right.

Please note that this is on the corner of 53rd Street and 9th Ave. as it is easy to pass by if coming by taxi.

Delicious food served in generous portions that are easy on the wallet with great lunch specials from 11:30 to 5pm. Diner is also very reasonable. Since this is a noodle shop, do try the noodles, especially the noodle soups which are a meal in itself.

The place is very popular and small, thus very busy and crowded with a fast turn around of tables, unless one goes between lunch and diner. Although it is busy and packed with patrons, the staff is friendly, and eager to please every guest.
