Description: Looking for a fresh catch on the West Side? Discover Uncle Nick’s! He was one of the first in the 80’s to bring fresh, moderately priced Greek food to Manhattan, in family-size portions, and he’s been there ever since! We’re not fancy, we don’t dim the lights and our dishes are made to eat, not admire – but when you’re in the mood for a friendly, festive meal – with lots of laughter, good spirits, and generous portions of hearty, Greek cooking, Uncle Nick’s is the place for you.

Good, no-nonsense place; fresh fish, well-prepared; good traditional stuff, e.g. moussaka. Ideal pre-theater place, because they get you in and out. Efficient service, if a bit curt.

Uncle Nick's is a consistently good place in Hell's Kitchen that provides a nice change from the average Manhattan restaurant. You can find all of the great standard Greek food here, but you can also eat on the light side. My vegetarian colleague had no problem finding many tasty choices on the menu.

TIP: Yes, the waiters know the words to the Greek music playing the in background.

We went to Uncle Nick's on 9th street for a pre-theatre dinner. The food was good and plentiful. We especially enjoyed the Greek salad. Service was quick and efficient, and the food is reasonably priced. This is not a fancy place--just a neighborhood restaurant with good food but that's what we were looking for.

I dined here last Friday with my girlfriend (girl's night). It is challenging to find a good restaurant by Penn station. I would never go back here. The service is terrible. It took over a half hour for our waiter to ask us if we would like an appetizer. It wasn't crowded. We just ordered everything at once. Never once did they ask of if we wanted a beverage. The food is mediocre. The octopus to me was slimy and like chewing rubber although the lemon potatoes were good. After the meal when the waiter finally returned we had to ask.. do you all over coffee or desert. We ordered the caramel which is SIMPLY a piece of goya flan placed on a plate, seriously.

If the customer service was good I would be willing to give them another shot.

Never again.

We love Greek food and this place did a good job of filling the void until our next trip to Tarpon Springs, but some of our local Diners do the dishes better so thats why only four stars. The good: Flaming Cheese! Gyros! Frozen Greek Yogurt! The Mediocre: basalmic dressing and rice that was NOT greek. The disappointing: no feta cheese or peppers on the salad, the coffee and fountain ice tea. The service was friendly and good. Very relaxed and not rushing us out. It was not a busy night so the noise was not too bad.
