“Skip it”

Well, if you like a restaurant where the food is mediocre, the piped in music is off a late night disco collection infomercial, there are NO substitutions, tables are crowded, (even for NY), and you are stuck in Times Square with no subway or cab fare, and can't walk because it is -10 windchill or 98 degrees, this place is a don't miss.

Pretty subpar. Theater diners can do much, much better for the same cost.

“Fabulous Find Near Times Square”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2013

We ate here prior to a show and were delighted with the food, service, menu and convenient location to shows. This is the sort of place where the breadsticks are special - long, thin, crisp and addictive. My husband ordered ravioli and it was absolutely delicious. We also ordered Tagliata (thinly sliced steak) which was perfectly prepared. The staff was attentive and checked with each table if you were planning on going to a show so they could pace your meal appropriately.

“Good food pretheater”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2013

I called the restaurant prior to reserving on open table to find out what time I should make reservations so we could get to an 8 oclock show without rushing through dinner. For a Times Square location, where food is not usually stellar, this place had pretty good food and excellent service, although it was very loud. Nice bread basket variety for the table. We told the waiter we were going to see a show at 8 and he made sure that we kept to that time without making us feel a bit rushed. We all shared a antipasti which was good with meats and roasted veggies but no cheese which is unusual. Husband got the raviloi special which he enjoyed. It was not a very large portion but would be satisfying for most people. Kids split a bowl of wheat pasta and baked chicken in lemon sauce. These were two seperate dishes that we combined because there is no deviating from the printed menu. I was not served what I ordered (taglettli with mushroom veal rogut) but instead pasta bolognese. I decided to eat it anyway since there was no waiter around to speak with when I realized the mistake and I didn't want to make us late. The bolognese was just ok. For dessert my family all ordered papya sorbet that was so tart my husband could not eat it and shared my chocolate mouse cake while the kids scarfed down his grapfruit tasting really sour sorbet. My only complaint is the noise level in this place is bad when crowded. That's probably why the server didn't hear my order correctly. The place is small and tables are packed in very tightly. We would eat here again for dinner before the theater, but not for any other reason.

“Pricey but nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 1, 2013

After missing out on a table at Carmine's we wandered up the road to Osteria Al Doge and were rewarded with a warm welcome and a delightful table upstairs overlooking the rest of the diners below. Our friendly, well informed waitress took the time to explain dishes to us and serve our very nice NZ Sauvignon Blanc when the glasses were empty. The food was beautifully presented and tasty. This is not a cheap diner to eat at after the theatre in Broadway but it is a lovely setting and perfect for a special meal, family gathering or romantic dinner.
