We recently had a late dinner at the newly re-opened DB Bistro Moderne and were most impressed both by the food quality and service.. I would avoid being seated too close to the bar area which seems to get rowdier as the evening progresses. The menu is divided into Classique and Marché sections; the latter having the more interesting and innovative dishes. Most impressive was the glazed duck breast with faro and hakurei turnips and an appetizer of salt baked celery root with wild mushrooms and apple confit. Deserts of fig and raspberry tart and plum clafoutis were also superb. There is a very strong French regional wine list with wines by the glass, ¼ liter and bottle. Prices seemed about 3-4 times retail for a couple I knew. A very nice Arbois red blended well with the food. The service was friendly and faultless. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could.

We had theater tix and thought we'd try this restaurant before our play. Everything we ordered was good. Nothing was exceptional but this isn't a high end restaurant so I didn't expect exceptional. Our only complaint was the slowness of service. We told our waiter we needed to be out at a certain time but, even though it was early, the restaurant was fairly full so the fault may have been with the chef. We finally ordered dessert and our check simultaneously so that we didn't have to wait for the check later. We thought the price reasonable for a mid-town NYC restaurant and would return next time we're in NY and have theater tickets.

We visited DB Bistro Moderne again after two previous visits. They have just renovated and changed the menu. Menu is interesting and very refined bistro and beyond. We shared an appetizer of escargot and chicken oysters. Incredible sauce and ingredients. I later looked up "chicken Oysters" to find this definition. "round pieces of dark meat on the back of poultry near the thigh, in the hollow on the dorsal side of the ilium bone." Our friends had the lobster appetizer and the trout. All enjoyed. Beautifully presented. The delicious bread kept coming.

Main courses: two had the "famous" burger with truffle and fries. Prepared as requested with foise gras . $32 per burger. worth having once I think. Two of us had the hangar steak with parsnips (delicious) puree and spinach. All well prepared but the vegetable portions were very small and one person proclaimed himself "still hungry". You are not "full" when you leave here, but you are satisfied because of the flavors. One dessert of chocolate fondant with two egg shaped portions of ice cream. Looked beautiful and apparently was excellent.

Main issue for us was the $19 a glass wines. Really... not necessary. We ordered vodka martinis and they were in small glasses. The liquor was the greatest cost of the dinner. They should have a great price variety of wines.

Excellent service. Decor is fine. Recommend.

Wonderful dinner experience with extraordinary food and service. Returned after theater another evening to a different scene with slow service small drinks and ridiculously small portions. Pretentious.
