Description: Inspired by the traditions and heritage of the Greek islands and mainland, Molyvos has been one of New York's most beloved Greek restaurants since its opening in 1997. Named after the seaside village on the Greek island of Lesvos where the Livanos family roots originate, Molyvos is known throughout Manhattan for its rustic Greek country cooking. Executive Chef Carlos Carreto takes diners on a Grecian culinary journey through a variety of mezedes and appetizers, as well as hyper-local specialty Greek cheese and honey, fresh fish, wild greens and savory pies - all accompanied by the largest all-Greek wine list in the U.S.

Our most recent visit to Molyvos was last month. The food was excellent. We had the grilled octopus and sesame crusted feta for appetizers. The clay pot lamb shank and moussaka were outstanding. However the only smile we received was from the coat room lady. The rest of the staff provided efficient service but with a flat affect and absence of emotion. It seemed that instructions given to the complete restaurant staff was not to show any. No one ever asked us about how our food was or seemed to care about our overall dining experience. The restaurant needs to improve on the overall attitude of the staff to show hospitality to their patrons.

Have you ever had that experience... You go to a new place, which is absolutely the BOMB in terms of food quality, service and all things nice about a restaurant. That was our first experience at Molyvos'. We considered ourselves so lucky to get a table. The food was exceptional, the service was sparkly and proud of what they were serving, we had a great table. We liked it so much, we bought the cookbook and booked again for the end of our trip to NYC.
The second time we got there, we were placed way at the back of the restaurant. Somehow, everything about the experience was different. The staff seemed to have forgotten about that tail end of the place, the service that we got eventually was hasty and sloppy and although the food was still very good, the whole experience spoiled the enjoyment of it. People were complaining around us. So the first time was 5*, the second time 3* - so we give it a 4* on average. Mind you: we wouldn't go back if it were like the second time, because then the place is overpriced!

A high quality Greek Restaurant between Central Park & Times Square. The waiters are knowledgeable, frank, & charming.
The sesame crusted feta appetizer was memorable. I enjoyed the headed prawns in clay pot and my companions raved over the moussaka. I'll be back.

Within our 1st week in the City, we ate at Molyvos, once for late dinner and again for lunch. Excellent food, presentation and service was outstanding by all the staff we encountered. Great choices on the menus. Ha, yes we'll be back again this trip.

I discovered a greek dish that I love and had to have it during my stay in NYC. My sister knew of Molyvos and we were able to get a reservation. The dining room is spacious and well designed. The food is delicious. The wait staff are knowledgeable about the wine as well as the food and after I described what I wanted, our waiter suggested a moderately priced delicious wine to pair with my meal. I had the Housemade Cannelloni, stuffed with Braised Lamb Shank with a Kefalotyri Cheese Sauce. So delicious. They are also experienced at serving you and getting you out on time for the theater. Loved it here and would go back again.
