Try the hush puppies and that great butter. Spare ribs look like they came from a brontosaurus - huge and delicious!

“America does BBQ amazing”
Reviewed February 27, 2014

During our trip to the big NYC we wanted to find a real BBQ Pit. Just off Times Square it couldn't be better located. We walked in for lunch and the smell of the real smokey flavours hit us. Very authentic and nostalgic. Great atmosphere giving you the sense of a 80's BBQ joint with different memorabilia around. We sat upstairs, and looked like we sat down and ordered at the right time as just after us coach loads of people started piling through the door for the asme treat.

The cutlery was wrapped up in a towel which I would imagine was for the meat sweats I had after the meal. I ordered a triple combo which included, Brisket, Pulled Pork, Ribs, Mash, Mac & Cheese. The portion sizes were huge and would recommend sharing as I'm a big eater but never would have finished this. (Defo one for man vs food). The flavour of the food was absolutely amazing. I've been fortunate to eat a lot of fine dining Michelin star food but would choose this rustic, straight off the pit, smokey delight any day.

Washed down with a chocolate pie and chocolate milkshakes it completed our lunch perfectly.

If you want real American food this place is a must!

“Late night munchies”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

Virgil's is located just off Times Square, and we went in looking for a late night snack. We had a couple of appetizers, ribs and wings, and they were quite tasty. We really enjoyed the mustard coleslaw. The prices were decent, and the location is convenient when sight-seeing. The drinks were very potent, though so watch out! We would go again when in NYC.

“So good!”
Reviewed February 25, 2014 via mobile

My family has been coming here for years... Best bbq in nyc! We have never ordered something that was less than stellar. My faves are the bbq shrimp, cornbread, Mac & cheese, train wreck fries... Really good margaritas too! The service is always very attentive without being overbearing, and they have a bunch of beer on tap in the cozy bar downstairs. Definitely stop in!

“Coasting on a no-longer deserved reputation”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

The first time we went to Virgil's, we just raved and couldn't wait to go back. Tender, juicy, and flavorful ribs, tasty salads, good and prompt service. We didn't mind the crowded setting and the noise; that went with a wildly popular restaurant smack in the middle of the Times Square area. Prices are what you would expect in Times Square. The next time we were in NYC we made a special trip to Virgil's for a repeat. It didn't happen. The ribs were dry and tough, and one of our party became slightly ill after the meal. (Some friends of ours had a similar experience a few weeks later.) The manager was extremely apologetic and told us to ask for him the next time we came in. There will be no next time for us. This restaurant needs to improve its quality control and to avoid serving inferior food.
