We only managed to get a booking for lunch where the atmosphere was more corporate than romantic but that did not impact on our fine dining experience. We chose to have the chef's tasting menu which provided eight smaller courses every one of which was a taste explosion. I would recommend Le Bernadin to anyone wanting a fine dining experience.

At this price point, expectations were certainly high. The food certainly delivered. My favourite courses were the lobster claw, and the divine broth it swam in. And the dessert of strawberry sorbet and meringue was a perfect balance of flavours and textures. Wait staff were a little lukewarm. Highlight of the evening was the floor show. Towards the end of the meal, a very drunk or drugged woman staggered around the restaurant whilst the front of house laughed behind her back. I wondered why she wasn't escorted to a taxi, as she was quite annoying wandering around the restaurant staring at the diners. She then slid along the wall (she couldn't stand unassisted) in the kitchen! I looked her up on the restaurant's website. She was Maguy Le Coze, the owner! What a performance. So many better options in NY. For a better complete experience, go to Alinea or WD50.

Welcoming and friendly staff. A very slick operation. Food was beautifully presented and was as good as I expected. Wait staff attentive and efficient. Need to book early as very popular and they don't take bookings earlier than a month in advance - this is relevant for overseas travellers, need to phone not email. They do have early and late bookings to accommodate the theatre.

To celebrate our engagement, my now husband and I were able to snag a bar seat at Le Bernardin on an impromptu visit to NYC. It exceeded our very high expectations. The bar seat offered us a great view of the cocktail mixing - the St. Germain/champagne beverage being one of the best I've ever had. The service was incredibly attentive, managing to keep our tiny water glasses already full. The breads and amuse bouche were a wonderful touch, and the fish was exceptional - tuna tartare was our favorite. By the main course we were already stuffed, but enjoyed the very delicate snapper. Dessert came in a fabulous presentation. We did not want to leave, and will be back - after saving our money!
