Description: In the heart of Little Brazil street is the famous Ipanema Restaurant, considered to be the best Brazilian restaurant in all of New York City. Ipanema offers a relaxed and contemporary atmosphere complemented by the authentic cuisine our chef has perfected over the past 30 years. While the name Ipanema refers to the famous beach in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil our menu is firmly rooted in the culinary crossover between both Brazil and Portugal. Ipanema's menu combines the timeless history of Portuguese recipes with the zest and vibrancy of Brazilian cuisine, resulting in a one-of-a-kind dining experience. At Ipanema you can immerse yourself in a true Brazilian-Portuguese experience with famous dishes including: Feijoada, Vatapá, Pão de Queijo, Bacalhau Assado, Bitoque Mariscada, and more.

Was there this week. Had a shell steak with onions. The steak was hard and not soft. The wait staff was not attentive. The beer was good though - I had the Portuguese beer. Similar food could be found in other restaurants with better taste.
So overall recommendation: Not worth it.

What a treat! Reasonably priced, superb service and delicious! So often I leave a moderately priced Manhattan restaurant disappointed...not tonight! We really enjoyed this place!

It can be a challenge to find a good restaurant among the mediocre "tourist traps" in midtown Manahattan. We we're lucky to find this establishment which is intimate, quiet and serves generous portions of wonderful Portuguese/Brazilian cooking. We walked in without a reservation but probably should call ahead.

Stumbled into this place while looking for a non-pizza dinner alternative. What a pleasant surprise... The host was very nice and seated us within ten minutes (place was busy!). We had the yucca croquettes for appetizer and had to ask for more because they were that good... For main course we ordered three servings (family of four) of the Picanha, the classic Brazilian meat cut... They came with rice, black beans, French fries and yucca flour (which you mix with the rice and beans... Fantastic!)... Also ordered delicious fried bananas... We ate it all and happily left a good tip since service was also very good.

Walked in on a Friday night after checking into our nearby hotel. My wife and I started with two salads - one octopus and one hearts of palm. We found both to be fresh, tasty, and surprisingly large. I ordered the pork and clams entree upon our waiters recommendation. The dish was very well done, with the pork the star. For $20, the portion was huge. My wife got a fish entree which the waiter suggested. An excellent dish. We finished with passion fruit mousse which we both enjoyed.

All in all, dinner was excellent and well worth the price paid.
