Great sushi restaurant with very reasonable prices. Sushi is great, as well as cooked fish.

“Superb sushi at moderate price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2011

In NYC, sushi comes at all prices, so it's nice to find superb sushi at prices that are moderate for NYC. Figure $40-50 per person with a drink, tax and tip included. Reservations not accepted on weekends. "Off the beaten track" in Tribeca, but worth the trip. You can pay more elsewhere but the sushi won't necessarily be better.

“Sushi treated with true respect”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2009

The friendly atmosphere of this place, which draws many locals from the neighborhood, really enhances the excellent quality food. Tribeca is filled with Japanese restaurants and Takahachi beats or equals the better known-competition that surrounds it. The menu contains many creative items and they are well-prepared consistently. Specials include what are occasionally hard to find seasonal items. The basic menu items are unfailingly high quality. Most of the staff have been here for many years. Service is efficient and attentive even at busy times. Small looking from the outside, you are ushered into a medium size, long space with a cool, understated decor. Don't overlook the kitchen items, either.

Takahachi is Tribeca chic, with groups of local families and tourists alike coming in, yet unpretentious for what appears to be super posh from the outside. The sushi rolls are creative, fresh, visually stunning and unique.
I had the "Passage to India" roll, made of fresh tuna, avocado, and sweet mango--with the tangy curry sauce drizzled on top. Even the edamame is an artful display of flavors and textures--perfectly plump edamame with rock salt on top.. the razor clam broth with lemongrass is also delicious to share as a starter.
