Description: Founded in 1908 by the Davino family Grotta Azzurra was named for the blue grotto on the isle of Capri and designed to evoke the beauty of one of the worlds most famous caves in the world, intensified. Enrico Caruso feasted here after performances, and Sinatra called it his one and only favorite Italian restaurant, making it the site of many a “Rat Pack” evening. Shuttered for six years, Grotta Azzurra has now been stunningly renovated and rebirthed by a descendant renaissance for dining in Little Italy, with multi-talented chef Frank Castellana recreating the finest in Italian Cuisine.

“Great atmosphere and good food in middle of Little Italy”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

With family and friends we choose to have dinner here in the heart of Little Italy during the San Gennaro Festival. It was very busy, but the personnel managed to immediately get a table for 6. We had excellent pasta's and good wine (although little pricey). And personnel was great.

“Good desserts, but pricey, with an automatic surcharge.”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

We stopped here for dessert in the evening and grabbed a table on the sidewalk. We each ordered either a dessert or an Irish coffee-type drink. My chocolate gelato was good. My friend's cheesecake was good. The bill for the four of us was a killer, close to $60 including an automatic 20% surcharge. Service was OK, but not 20 percent worth. These Italian restaurants on Mulberry Street are going to be expensive, I know. But, it wasn't that special of an experience for the cost. I'd shop around, check TripAdvisor and select a restaurant in Little Italy that will be a memorable, if expensive, experience. It's not likely to be this one.

“Unfriendly”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Waiting staff here were not very attentive as we took lunch in little Italy, to make things a whole lot worse they added a 20% service charge to the total automatically, and then asked for a tip on top! Food quality was fine but the constant stream of staff leaving the place for cigarette breaks put us off.
