I'm pretty sure this was my favorite meal in NYC during our visit. If locals go, you know it's good.
Cash only, no reservations, but oh so worth it. We went at 6:30 pm on a Sunday and walked right in without issue. I imagine on a Friday or Saturday night it would be a lot more difficult but hear the wine bar next door makes the wait manageable.
It's very small with rustic decor. I felt like I walked into a small restaurant in Italy to be honest. The staff was friendly. Be prepared that the tables are very cozy and close together.
We had the gnocco fritto as an appetizer - we got it with both the cold cuts and cheese and it was simply out of this world amazing. I had never even heard of stracchino cheese but something tells me I will be on the look out for it now.
For entrees I had the lasagna and my husband had sliced beef filet with rosemary. Both excellent, and I'm telling you it has ruined me for having lasagna anywhere else. It was the best I have ever had, and I learned how lasagna is supposed to actually taste.
And what a value! We both had a drink and the total was 60 bucks. Unheard of for NYC.
