Description: One of America’s most beloved restaurants, Gramercy Tavern has welcomed guests for close to two decades to enjoy seasonal American cuisine, warm hospitality and unparalleled service. The restaurant is perennially ranked at the top of Zagat Survey’s ‘Most Popular’ list, and has garnered eight James Beard Awards including ‘Outstanding Restaurant’ and ‘Best Chef: NYC’. Chef Michael Anthony’s highly seasonal menu consists of elegant dishes with a rustic influence that showcase the restaurant’s relationships with local farms and purveyors. The Main Dining Room serves prix-fixe menus starting at $92 for dinner and an a la carte menu for lunch, and accepts reservations 28 days in advance. The more casual Tavern serves an a la carte menu centered around the wood burning grill, and welcomes guests on a walk-in basis. The restaurant also features an acclaimed wine list, and thoughtfully selected beer and cocktail offerings.

“Worth the wait!”
Reviewed December 6, 2013

We ate here the evening we arrived in New York looking for something upscale / nice, but without the hassle of reservations as we didn't know we'd feel like doing after a flight from London.

The restaurant's reputation preceded it, so we arrived in good time (c. 7pm) and put our names down for a table in the non-restaurant half whilst we had a drink at the (busy) bar. We had to wait about an hour, but the service was pleasant and you could hear yourself think too.

We were seated at about 8.15 - 8.30pm to a lovely meal (with vegetarian options as well) - and whilst it's not the cheapest of places, it is great quality, with well-presented, tasty food, all accompanied by a wine-list with a reasonable range of price options on it. I'd certainly go back!

Come 10.30, we were knackered and ready for bed, but a pleasant way to end a long day!

“Top New York Fare”
Reviewed December 6, 2013

It doesn't get much better than then Gramercy Tavern- we love to go for a late lunch. They do have a terrific soup and sandwich special at the bar, which I recommend if you don't want to break the bank; but we had a long lazy holiday lunch in the dining room here, as we try to do every year when we come to town for Thanksgiving.
Its expensive yes- but the food is so good you'll understand why its a New York favourite. Its a NYC great.

“Outstanding restaurant”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

We had a lovely evening with good food. The monk fish dinner was excellent although the portion was below average which is the only reason I gave it a 4 instead of 5. The beet salad was also excellent. The service was outstanding. Plan to arrive early to get a table in the bar area which has a good but limited menu. It is my understanding that one must book the dining room several days or weeks in advance.

“Memorable”
Reviewed December 2, 2013

You could actually film a series “The Real People of New York” here because that is the atmosphere at Gramercy Tavern. I always give a Triple-A to the chef that sends over the evening’s tasting delicacies! Love, love and love it! It says a lot about the restaurant and how they want to immediately prepare your senses. We had their lighter Prie Fixe (they also offer an 'all-the-way-out' $$$ for those with the 'gusto' appetites and a vegetarian one) in the Formal Dining Room (which is lovely), although they also serve a regular menu in their Tavern area. The food is exceptional (and seasonal). What we best enjoyed was the Roasted lamb and their smoked fish. Everything was pleasantly presented and well-coordinated, plate after plate. It is a Must-Reserve restaurant because it was totally full (and on a Monday!). The service is impeccable! We also received a Chef’s Dessert Tasting although we ordered the [aromatic and elegant] caramel-covered Pear. For niceties, you go home with a Nutty-topped, Breakfast Muffin.
