Description: Tiella serves modern Southern Italian cuisine. Its inventive and sophisticated menu is inspired by and elevates the home-cooked meals and peasant culinary traditions owners Giuseppe Castellano and Mario Coppola were raised with in Naples, Italy. Indeed, Tiella takes its name from the Neopolitan word for a cast-iron pan that is used for baking, grilling or frying meats, fish and breads. Our signature tiellas are pizza-like appetizers baked in our wood-fired oven. Our philosophy is that the greatest meals require the finest ingredients. We import mozzarella di bufala, stracciatella and other fine cheeses, as well as risotto and prosciutto from Italy. Many other ingredients are sourced from local producers and farmers. To ensure that we serve the very best bread and pasta, we make our own. The extensive wine list is comprised of Italian makers and complements the menu.

“Tiny gem on the UES”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

Tiella is in the neighborhood so we decided to give it a try when an out of town friend came in and wanted to go out to dinner. It is quite small so reservations really are necessary. When we arrived at 6:30p only 2 or 3 tables were occuppied but when we left at around 8pm the place was packed. The menu is not extensive but everything we had was wonderful - well prepared, well presented and delicious. I can see why the place was packed. We will definitely be going back alot.

“Small, simple, delicious Italian food simply served and reasonably prices”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Not once, but every time I treat myself to delicious simple meal at this neibourghood restaurant, I am surprise with the quality of the delicious traditional Italian food they invariably serve.
When you go, ask for things that they may have that are not on the menu, you will be surpriced with what they can come up with. Their only weak point are the desserts, but who cares about dessert when the totality of your meal is a real treat. The last time I was there for lunch, the waiter mentioned that the cheff had been slow cooking goat for the evening meal, and offered it to me, It was fantastic, I can't wait to go back for some more of the same!
They don't have delivery, but you can always things to go and take them home and enjoy them later.
The place is very small and run buy no more than 3 people, but they are dedicated to please you and enjoy no end to see the expression on your face when you taste their marvelous offerings. Not an elegant place, but truly one that will become a favorite, specially on wintry days, when substantial food is a most.

“Hidden gem under the bridge”
Reviewed November 29, 2012

Restaurant offers modern Italian specialties, that are well prepared & tasty, served by an attentive staff. Would've liked a bit more of a menu selection though. As others have noted, the space is small - more intimate than congested, so do make reservations. A wonderful choice if you're in the neighborhood, but not exactly a destination spot if you're downtown or on the UWS.

“Tiella - NYC”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

The food was excellent and the service was great. The restaurant is a bit small so you should try to make a reservation. My suggestion- try the:
STRACCIATELLA E TARTUFO- Stracciatella cheese, prosciutto and shaved black truffle
CYNAR - Risotto with artichokes, pancetta and black summer truffle

“Pass on this one!”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

Had dinner in this small restaurant that is really not Italian. When I asked the waiter what the chef is making really good, he said the bread. They have no meat sauce, no ketchup for the chicken, and at last no biscotti's for desert. Found bones in my sea bass. Even the bread wasn't good and definately not made in house.
