“Lovely Italian on the Upper East Side”
Reviewed July 1, 2012

This was a cozy, delicious find for us on the UES - the gnocchi and ravioli were wonderful - they have a fantastic wine list, and the service was lovely. Would recommend to anyone!

“Don't forsake us, oh my darlin'”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

There were 9 of us for dinner, which means, of course, that the gratuity is guaranteed. How did that ever become a Restaurant Rule?
What it really means is that the server knows he is getting his money, so he can concentrate on other tables where the tipping is based on - sigh - service, and not the number of people at the table.
After he took out orders he disappeared, never to be seen again. What is particularly galling is the following (servers around the world, listen up!): If we happen to like our white wine at cellar temperature, and not nearly-frozen in a tub of ice, and so ask for the wine to be left out, that doesn't mean that we are happy to pour it ourselves! Did you hear that? Same thing at Nota Bene in Toronto: just because the wine is left on the table so it doesn't form ice crystals doesn't mean that we don't want the same degree of waiterly service.
So, taken together, the guaranteed tip and wine on the table meant, to our server, that he didn't have to come back again except to deliver the (tip-included) bill.
The branzino was 3 thin strips of fish, not the whole fish that I am used to in other restaurants. Hello? Anyone to ask about this? No, our server is across the room actually serving some other table.
So servers of the world, please don't forsake us just because we are 6 or more people sitting at the same table.

“East side find!”
Reviewed June 11, 2012

I had dinner here last week and the food and the service was impeccable! My guest who cam from out of town got a true NY night out. We had the eggplant and caprese salad. Both were delicious. They also put out fried olives which I had never had and man were they good. I would go back just for those!!!! We had 2 pizza's (Margarita and pepperoni), a pork chop dish, and whole wheat gnocchi. When you go to this restaurant bring your appetite!!! I also must mention that they accommodated my guilty pleasure of Kettle One Martini straight up with blue cheese stuffed olives. Cheers! Thank you for a wonderful meal.

“Good food for the neighborhood - could use a facelift !”
Reviewed May 11, 2012

Not a destination restaurant for sure, but nice to have a neighborhood option with good food!
A little on the dark and dismal side but then again, you can hear yourself talk! You can't have it all! We were there with a total party of 10 which seemed to frazzle the service staff slightly.
They came out twice to check what it was I ordered and someone else got the wrong dish -- but they tried hard to please us! Everyone enjoyed the meal - wonderful large salads and delicious pastas! I had a veal scalloppine which was good...but that isn't a dish that one dreams about anyway! We'd probably go back ....just the two of us..or maybe with another couple. But one little thing ruined the evening. The check was split on five credit cards (our was an AMEX as were some others) It was quite late by the time we left....the credit card was returned with the bill.
But the next morning AMEX called to say the card was compromised. Three charges turned up in Brazil. Naturally they cancelled the card and wired another. American Express explained that numbers are often "sold" during the time it takes for a back restaurant staff to process a bill! So a note to the managers - time to re-evaluate your kitchen staff!
