Description: Designed by partner Jean Denoyer, Orsay strikes that difficult balance of sophisticated-chic in a warm convivial atmosphere. Dark mahogany raised paneled walls meet Art Nouveau styled arches in a deep, creamy butter color. The floor is a work of art, Italian mosaic tiles in warm tones of precious metals hand laid in a beautiful fan pattern that floats in waves across the expanse of floor. Banquettes with high wood backs topped with frosted glass panels provide privacy if wanted, and the low, soft lighting emanates from Art Nouveau period chandeliers that Denoyer had custom designed. A 20-foot long zinc-topped wood bar shipped in one piece from France, and French doors that spill onto the sidewalk terrace, completing the feeling that you are in the 9th arrondisement in Paris. This sophisticated and elegant Parisian-style brasserie marries modern French cuisine and classic brasserie fare. Orsay's award-winning wine list includes all 300 predominantly French and American varietals.

Had dinner with extended family and a great time was had by all. No booking but we were seated quickly and wait staff were most attentive and courteous. Meals were quite delicious and well presented. Obviously a regular restaurant for locals as friendly staff greeted other diners - must be typical of New York restaurants where folk are prepared to wait for a table. Definitely will go back when we visit New York again.

We had Thanksgiving dinner at Orsay - and what a wonderful experience it was.

Perhaps it was the festive occasion, but I thoroughly enjoyed the hustle, bustle and buzz that enveloped us during our meal.

We all had the Thanksgiving table d'hote. The portions for the appetizer, entree and dessert were well balanced and reflected equally good choices for colour, texture and variety. One brief word about the pumpkin pie: Amazing.

We can not wait to go back again. My only worry is that pumpkin pie is seasonal.

What can one say regarding a restaurant that continually satisfies their customers with the quality of the food wine service decor and ambiance? The answer is of course to continue to return and experience the satisfaction. Upon entering, you are greeted by friendly staff and are transported to a cherished piece of France from your memory. Orsay is worth the trip, the cost and the adventure. The return of it all are the memories that you leave with.

The concierge recommended this place and while the food was good, the experience was marred by the lack of service from our waiter who seemed to simply forget we were there even when serving the tables all around us. Note, I think this was specific to this waiter though as others seemed on the ball.

A traditional place, nice decor. That is really it. The food, but in particular the snotty service leaves much to be desired. The place mostly fills up with UES more senior crowd looking for their daily meal, and lots of people just trying it out. In general, one is much better off at balthazar downtown or le magnifique, a few blocks down on lexington.
