“Treat Yourself after a Museum Visit”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

We have been here several times and have never been disappointed. Although the wait can easily be 30 minutes or more, it is a very enjoyable experience. We've only eaten in the Cafe on the main level. There is another cafe downstairs (same food, same kitchen). But we always wait for a table since the main floor room is part of the experience for us. The breads are hearty, the mustard hot and the sausages just great. We are usually too full for desserts but when we have tried them we have never been disappointed. With a little bit of your imagination, you will think you are in a European Cafe instead of 5th Avenue. Service is efficient. Prices without drinks run about $20/person for one of the sausage dishes. Well worth it.

“Charming Coffee and Dessert on the Museum Mile”
Reviewed November 22, 2013

This cafe is charming with viennese coffee and delightful desserts. Many New Yorkers and international visitors sit side-by-side enjoying the ambience and food. You can, of course, choose from a substantial lunch menu, but I enjoy the pleasure of coffee and pastry in one of the most delightful environments along the museum mile. Do not miss the museum or the museum gift shop. If you enjoy Klimt and the beauty of this Fifth Avenue townhouse masterpiece, you will enjoy this adventure even more.

“Good food, but large crowds”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

I think maybe the Cafe Sabarsky is trying to do too much with a small space. We arrived around noon, and got in line for the cafe. Fortunately, someone pointed out to us that we could order the same items downstairs without the wait.

We got the last table downstairs, so then the line started to form there too. The "table" was about 2 feet in circumference. Good thing we just wanted a little coffee and dessert, because even that was difficult to place on our table for four.

I loved, loved, loved the hazelnut cake with a Schlag (scoop of whipped cream).

My advice, try to visit when things are quieter (maybe mid-afternoon).

“Disappointing”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

I have read rave reviews about the Cafe. I went on a Friday afternoon. There was a line up when I went and a line up when I left. The cafe was very busy and tables were very close to each other. I ordered the Bavarian Sausage with pretzel and mustard. The dish came with 2 sausages with a pretzel and mustard. No garnish or any effort on presentation. The sausages were lukewarm. I then ordered the coffee and whipped cream which some travel guide describes as "heavenly". It was just a coffee with whipped cream. Very down to earth.

Overall, I had an expensive lunch at a cramped restaurant with very matter-of-fact, no nonsense service. The only compliment is the decor.

“A Pause in 19th Century Vienna”
Reviewed November 14, 2013

A morning's brunch in Cafe Sabarsky is step up from the typical Viennese cafe in terms of formality, but the coffee and pastry are true to their origin. In the Neue Gallery, the Cafe is a good place to meet family and catch up. Conversation is possible since there is no loud and annoying music to interfere with hearing,
