Gennaro must be popular and good. How else could it survive while declining to take reservations and credit cards? We arrived early (before 6PM) and got a table immediately though there were already lots of customers in the dining room. The kale salad tasted divine, and the pastas we ate were excellent. By the time we left, there were people waiting for tables.

The dining room is a bit crowded, and the place bustles, so don't come for a quiet, romantic dinner. Do come for the food.

Great Mediterranean / Italian food on the upper west side of New York City. The wait was about 20 minutes, which is not bad at all. Great service and great recommendations by the waiter. It is a great neighborhood spot and we will make it a regular.

Authentic Sicilian dishes and an array of spectacular wines. I ordered a savory/sweet pumpkin ravioli with walnuts and grated parmesan cheese and a lambshank to die for. The atmosphere is cosey and unpretentiuos. Unfortunately we arrived 8pm Saturday and there was a wait outside the door but we were seated within 20 minutes and it was well worth the wait. Definitely coming back. Two Thumbs up!

Friday night at 9 pm with baby carriages banging your elbows is not my idea of dining. The salads were excellent. My pork chop was ok buy way too much onion, it over powered the dish. The sausage was tasty but the rabe was not very flavorful. The pear tart was a bit tasteless but the tiramisu was excellent. Overall not a great experience.

The appetizer was great (warm potato tart with portobello mushrooms and goat cheese) but the entree was average (braised chicken - came with salad instead of potatoes and vegetables). My friend was served wine that was not fresh but they changed it with no problem. Dessert was average - disappointing, really. The hazelnut torte was tasteless as was the coffee - and I enjoy a good cup of coffee at the end of a meal. Expect to pay about $50 per person and they only take cash. Service was very good.
